The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Every born-again believer should be baptized in the Holy Spirit! Jesus commanded his disciples to not depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father! Our heavenly Father only has good and perfect gifts to give! The gift of the Holy Spirit is no exception! The church needs the dynamic duo of the Word and the Spirit! We shouldn’t blow up or dry up! We all need to grow up in the power of the Spirit and foundation of the Word of God. If the Acts 2 church needed the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we still need it today!

The Outpouring Of The Holy Spirit Transcript

Welcome everyone to the broadcast. I’m so glad that you’ve tuned in today, we are talking about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and we’re talking about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and specifically gifts of power. God has gifts of power for those who receive the Holy Spirit, who have believed on Jesus, and he has them available for you. So stay tuned. Blessings. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today. It’s great to have Barbara. We’re teaching this second week on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and we talked about in the first week how the Holy Spirit was poured out in the Book of Acts. They received it initially at Jerusalem. The church was born, but it didn’t stop there. It went to Samaria, it went to Cornelius’s house, and the Gentiles, it went to the Elders of John at Ephesus. And the Holy Spirit is still being poured out. Praise God, the gifts of the Spirit are still in operation. The ministries, the Lord Jesus Christ. We talked about this a little bit last week, that Jesus has given these fivefold ministry gifts to the church, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. But yet to he’s given those gifts, Jesus gives those gifts, but it takes the Holy Spirit to empower those gifts so that they can minister the right way just like Jesus had to have the Holy Spirit to fulfill his ministry. And Jesus represented all of the three Old Testament ministries, prophet, priest, and King, but also all five of the New Testament ministries, apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor ,and teacher. But the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, the spirit of the Lord is upon me because He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He sent me to heal the broken hearted.

That is powerful what you just brought out, I think a lot of times that is not really elaborated or taught that the spirit of the Lord came on Jesus to teach and to preach. And so that is huge. That’s an amazing information.

When Jesus was baptized right in the river Jordan, it gave him power. After that, he was led of the Spirit to be tempted by the devil in the wilderness, Luke 4 and Matthew 4, overcame the devil in every temptation. But then he returned, it says in Luke 4:14 in the power of the Spirit. And he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day and he began to say, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me because He’s anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor.” There is an anointing to preach the gospel, but he went on to say, “He has sent me to heal the broken hearted.” Just as much as there is an anointing to preach, there is an anointing to heal. And Paul, the Apostle Paul, who wrote about half of the New Testament, Paul said, when I came to you, he’s a very educated man, I did not come with the excellency of speech or wisdom, but I came in demonstration of the spirit and the power that your face should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

You just said something that just made me think of something that happened years ago. I like what you brought out, demonstration. There is going to be a demonstration. And I think you remember this too. This was a number of years ago. We were ministering in Florida, and I believe it was for a bible college. And they had really encouraged people to invite or bring outside people, it wasn’t just for the students, it was open up to the community. And I know some of these very excited people brought a friend, and I believe this person had never received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. And you had just got up there to minister. We always like to share the word of God, but the Holy Spirit just kept telling me about someone there. And I had never done this before. I had never done it before or since. But while you were up there ministering, it just kept coming to me about somebody to give a word. And so I said, “I hate to stop you, but there’s a word for someone.” And so I got up there, you were just preaching away. And I got up there and shared, and I just thought it was such a strange word. It just was so interesting to stop you because it kept coming to me that there was someone there with their pinky, that their joint was in severe pain. And I kept thinking, am I really hearing this right, that someone has a pain in their pinky, but it was just such a strong word to get up and share it. And so these people, they brought their visitor or their friend up for prayer who I think had never experienced a meeting like this. And I remember you just started laying your hands on top of his pinky and praying for him. And he started saying out loud, “I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it.” God touched him in that he must have been in a horrible amount of pain. And God touched him and the pain left. And I just think the Lord touched him in numerous ways, but I can just remember him saying, he was like looking at his hand and astonished.

So this is a demonstration of the resurrection of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. God gave us Jesus, Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us gifts. And this was a demonstration of a word of knowledge that God gave you a word of knowledge about something so little that some people might think it’s insignificant, but these things are not insignificant. And it showed this man the reality of the Holy Spirit, the reality of the resurrection of Jesus, and God’s care and love for him. And this happens, as we read in Acts 5, we were in Acts 3 and 4 yesterday, but it says by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders worked among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. In verse 13, it says, and the rest did no man join himself to them. But the people magnified them. And believers were added more to the Lord, multitudes of men and women in so much that they brought forth the sick in the streets and laid them on beds and couches that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow them. And there also came a multitude out of the city’s roundabout Jerusalem bringing sick people, and those who were vexed with unclean spirits and they were healed, everyone, hallelujah. As the power of God went forth, they went and got their friends and brought their friends, and their friends received the power of God. I know one time I went to Minneapolis, I believe that you were there, and I was preaching, and there was a mighty demonstration of the spirit. And there was a girl there, and I don’t know if she had somebody brought her as a friend and it was with the Bible school, but they rented an outside hotel to have the meetings. And this girl, I remember, I think you might have given the word about somebody has a problem with lockjaw. She came up and I laid hands on her, and I remember the power of God hit her and she just, you know, she just laid out, people caught her. I remember her laying there on the floor and she was opening her mouth going.

  Because it was healed.

And it was like she was shocked at the power of God and the demonstration of the spirit. We need to have a demonstration of the spirit and power. There is nothing quite like the demonstration of the Holy Spirit.

Well I wanna bring something else out. And I think you remember this too, as you were ministering there in Minnesota, what I remember you were preaching, but just people would just come up to receive. We didn’t do the standard altar call, but people were just hungry and came.

People were coming up and getting healed and coming and getting saved and delivered by the power of God. And we weren’t hardly saying anything, we were just praying for people. And there was a mighty demonstration of the power. In fact, about three years after that meeting, this man contacted me and I think I went back there and he came and said, “Hey, I was here.” And he had been in on heart medication for some heart problem he had for over 40 years. And we prayed for him and God immediately healed him. And he went off of that medication after 40 years being on that medication for his heart. Hallelujah.

  That’s amazing.

He was in his 60s. It was an amazing, there’s amazing things. I thank God that God still does amazing things when people believe Him and believe Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit. And do you know what? The gifts of the Holy Spirit aren’t just for the apostles. As you go on, as we read in Acts 6, you know what, they chose seven men because the church was being murmured about because the church was growing so fast, it was hard for them to take care of the physical needs of people. So they chose seven men full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom the Bible says to take. And Stephen was one of those and said he did great miracles. He was full of faith and the Holy Ghost. And he did great miracles among the people. Do you know Stephen wasn’t an apostle, but he was a deacon and he did great miracles. It doesn’t matter whether you’re apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher, or just a good old believer, glory to God, these signs will follow them that believe, Jesus said in Mark 16 “In my name, they’ll cast out devils. They’ll speak with new tongues.” It says if they drink any deadly thing, they’re gonna be divine protected We read in Acts 12 how Herod had killed James with the sword and he took Peter to please the Jews and he intended to kill Peter. But the church was praying for Peter. And did you know what? God sent his angel in the prison. Peter thought he was having a vision and the chains fell off of him, the angel of the Lord spoke to him and said put on your clothes. And he walked past the first guard and the gate opened of its own accord. And then he walked past the second guard and the gate opened, and then he walked out into the street. And all of a sudden the angel was gone and Peter realized, hey, this wasn’t a vision, I am free. And he went over to the house and he prayed where the people were praying for him and knocked on the door. And a servant girl named Rhoda came to check on him and said, “Hey, Peter’s at the door.” They were so full of faith, they said, no, you’ve seen a spirit. But he kept knocking and they went, no, it’s really Peter, praise God. And so glory to God, that divine protection. And it says, and those who believe, this is Mark 16:15 18, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. We have promises today for people who believe on Jesus, promises of the Holy Spirit, promises of speaking in tongues, promises of casting out devils, promises of laying hands on the sick and seeing them healed, and promises of divine protection. Glory to God. I thank God we got angels watching over us. Amen, glory to God, taking care of us in every way. So these promises are real. And so those apostles, and you know, the apostles, they persecuted them because of these signs and worship because the church was exploding. The religious leaders were probably jealous and they were upset and they commanded them that they not teach anymore in the name of Jesus. And it says in verse 28 that then we command you that you should not teach in this name, and behold, you have filled Jerusalem with this man’s doctrine. So the church went forward in the power of the Holy Spirit preaching the resurrection of Jesus and demonstrating the resurrection of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. And I believe that we are to go forward in the power of the Holy Spirit and demonstrate the resurrection of Jesus to the world. Amen, so we’re gonna come back right after this break and we’re gonna continue to talk about the Holy Spirit and His gifts and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Thank God. Did you know what, you, if you have believed on Jesus and have never received the Holy Spirit, you can receive the Holy Spirit. So you call in today, we’ve got a very special offer for a gift of any amount, my book on “Absolute Victory in Christ,” talking about believing on Jesus, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, and how to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and believe in the word of God. And we’re sending that for a gift of any amount to anybody who calls. But you can call in in the break if you are a believer in Jesus and have not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and receive the Holy Spirit. Thank you so much for being with us today. Blessings. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today. And I want to tell you about a very special offer today and this week we are offering “Absolute Victory in Christ,” my book on salvation, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and believing the word for a donation of any amount. Plus we’re offering our teaching on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in audio or video download free of charge, blessings. I got a word from God. A lot of believers want Shazam, and a lot of times the things of the kingdom of God aren’t Shazam. Jesus said everything operates according to the parable, the sower, the kingdom. How many of you know the devil is a enemy of the word? Because he knows if you get ahold of the word of God, the word of God is literally gonna change your life. Friends, I’m so glad that you stayed with us. We’ve been talking about the baptism of the Holy Spirit and how the apostles and the disciples went forward, and we find out it wasn’t only the apostles, it was believers in Jesus, it was disciples. And if you believe in Jesus today, you can operate in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has gifts for you, praise God. So Barbara, let’s read Acts 6:1 8.

Okay, I love this. Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution, then the 12 some of the multitude of the disciples and said it is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. Verse three, it tells us, therefore brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good repetition full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom whom we may appoint over this business, but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. And the saying, please the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit and Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, and these are big names here for a minute. And Nicholas from Antioch. And he said, I’ll get it here, and whom they set before the apostles. And when they had prayed, they laid hands on them and the word of God spread, and the number of disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem. And a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. And Stephen full of faith and power did great wonders and signs among the people. Then there arose from what is called the synagogue of the freedom. And I’m gonna let you read verse nine.

Libertines, Cyrenians, Alexandrians of them, Cilicia in Asia disciple disputing with Stephen, but they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke. So the church was growing so fast, they were having a hard time keeping up with the physical needs. So the apostles chose seven men. These were really deacons, and deacon means a table servant. And and it says they were honest, they wanted them to be honest, we need honest people in the church. They were full of the Holy Ghost, they were full of wisdom, and they appointed him over this business. When they did this, it says in verse seven, the word of God increased and the numbers of disciples in Jerusalem multiplied. The church was exploding. It went from 3,120 on the day of Pentecost to 5,000 just shortly after. And now it says the word of God increased and the numbers of disciples multitude greatly. And Stephen, they chose him to be a deacon, but maybe he was an evangelist. Hallelujah, and I think we can all share the good message of Jesus. And he did great wonders and miracles among the people. See, this is not just for the apostles, this is for believers. And he was so full of the Holy Ghost that they could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke. You know what? I believe we could get so full of the Holy Ghost that people who come against us cannot resist the wisdom. They cannot resist the spirit by which we speak. We need to stay full of the Holy Ghost. I don’t think that we have to be afraid of people who come against us, of people who attack us, of people who say false things. I think we just need to boldly keep preaching Jesus and boldly keep sharing the word of God and make no apologies for it.

Well I like how it says in Matthew, it tells us, rejoice, when you’re persecuted for the Lord’s sake, rejoice.

And when all men speak against you falsely. And we’ve had that happen. But you just gotta keep rejoicing. And you gotta keep your eyes on the good. You gotta keep seeing what God is doing. Amen?

  God is faithful.

God is faithful, and sometimes people aren’t, but God is. So we have to keep our eyes on that. In fact our son Aaron showed me a message by a Baptist pastor, I think Ed Young in Dallas, great Baptist pastor. And he was talking about how the average person in the in the world loses seven key relationships in their life. And the average pastor loses about seven key relationships a year. That’s just crazy. But we found it to be true. But you gotta keep your eyes on Jesus and keep rejoicing. It’s helping me. So I need some help sometimes. Praise God, I thank God, I got people around me that can help me keep my eyes on the right thing. Praise God. Now when we move forward into Acts 8, in Acts 8, the church was being persecuted because it was growing so large. And they actually killed Stephen, right? And as they killed Stephen, he kneeled down like Jesus and said, lay not this into their charge, Saul who became Paul was in charge of that, that persecution, and no doubt that this had an effect on him. And Saul consented to his death, but they carried Stephen to his burial. But after this, so the church was being scattered because of the persecution. But in Acts 8, it says Philip went down to Samaria and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed to those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles that he did. Praise God. I believe that when we preach the word, that signs follow the preaching of the word, God confirms the word preach with signs following. Praise God. And so when we look at this, it says they heard, I believe they heard demons come out and they saw the lame get healed. They saw the miracles he did. For unclean spirits cried with a loud voice and came out of many who were possessed with them. I think there’s a lot of people possessed with the devil today, and he says, and many that were lame were healed and that there was great joy in that city. See, when signs and wonders and miracles follow the preaching of the word, what happens? People believe on Jesus, receive Jesus, just like this in Acts chapter 8, they got baptized in water, they believed on Jesus, they got baptized in water, and later the apostles came and laid hands on them and they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. So the church exploded in power. Amen, and we are not powerless today. Glory to God. If we jump over to Acts 9:32, Barbara, read Acts 9:32 35.

Now it came to pass as Peter went through all parts of the country that he also came down to the saints who dwelt and lie there. There he found a certain man named Ananias, who had been bedroom eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, “Ananias, Jesus the Christ heals you, arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately. So all who dwelt there saw him and turned to the Lord.

So Peter, as he was preaching, and he saw this man, he’d been sick for eight years in his bed. That’s terrible. Sick in bed for eight years. Terrible. But Peter said “Ananias, Jesus makes you well.” I’m so glad. I was preaching Sunday and we had a woman here. She’d been in a struggle. She’s been in a battle. The devil had been trying to attack their family, I believe because what God has for them. And so I spoke a word to here. Thank God she had strength enough to come to church. And I believe that God is healing her. Praise God. And you went over after the service and laid hands on her and prayed for her, glory to God. So we speak the word and we lay hands on the sick and we do what the scripture says, those who believe, Mark 16 says, will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Jesus said in John 14:12 that he who believes on me, the same works that I do and greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my father. And we have authority in the name of Jesus over all the works of the devil. We shouldn’t let the devil just have a heyday. We need to take authority over the works of the devil. Praise God. We look a little bit farther and in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha called Dorcas. And she was full of good works and giving to the poor. And it came to pass that in those days that she was sick and died. But what’d they do? They called Peter. And what’d Peter do? He came in. He didn’t call a big prayer meeting. He didn’t call 10 friends, 12 friends, 30 friends, 100 friends. He didn’t call 1,000 people to pray. He put everybody out just like Jesus. Jesus put everybody out but Peter, James and John, his closest three. He didn’t want a bunch of unbelief around. Peter put them all out it says, he went in there, and in verse 40 put them all out and kneeled down and prayed and turning to him to the body, he turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, I speak to you and say to you, arise.” Hallelujah. And she opened her eyes when she saw Peter and sat up, glory to God, speak the word to God. I got called to pray for a man in between services here. And this man had stopped, his heart had stopped. I could tell he was in cardiac arrest. He was white as a sheet. And his his head fell over like this. And the prayer team was gathered around. There’s the head of our prayer team, Herb Carter. And I went over, I saw what was happening. I laid hands on him. There were two nurses there that took his pulse. One said he didn’t have one, and then one said it was threading, but I laid my left hand on his back and my right hand on his chest. Everybody said I hit him. I didn’t think I hit him, but I might’ve. And I commanded his heart to start and I commanded his blood to flow. And a little bit, his head came up. Hallelujah. And you know what? His pulse was regaining and he got strength. And we asked his wife, we said, and God asked her, his wife Judith, she said, do you want him to stay or do you want him to go? She said, I want him to stay. Glory to God. You better treat your wife right, husbands, there might be a time your life is in jeopardy and she might have something to say about it. Praise God. And God raised up her and they went down and checked him and they couldn’t find nothing wrong with him at the hospital. They kept him all night that night. And they put a harness on him and checked his heart for two weeks, couldn’t find nothing wrong because God not only raised him up, but God healed him of his disease. And Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Praise God. Pray for the people, Barbara.

Well, dear heavenly Father, we come to you in the precious name of Jesus. And I thank you Lord that we are blessed, we’re not cursed. Jesus hung on that cross and took our place. So Lord, I thank you that they are blessed and this is a great day in Jesus’ name.
