The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Every born-again believer should be baptized in the Holy Spirit! Jesus commanded his disciples to not depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father! Our heavenly Father only has good and perfect gifts to give! The gift of the Holy Spirit is no exception! The church needs the dynamic duo of the Word and the Spirit! We shouldn’t blow up or dry up! We all need to grow up in the power of the Spirit and foundation of the Word of God. If the Acts 2 church needed the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we still need it today!

The Outpouring Of The Holy Spirit Transcript

Friends, I’m so glad that you’ve tuned in today, I have Barbara with me. We’re teaching on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and today we’re gonna talk about how the Gentiles received the Holy Spirit and you don’t have to wait to receive it. And once you receive the baptism of Holy Spirit, you can keep yourself stirred up in the things of God. So tell your friends about the broadcast and stay tuned. God bless you. Friends, I am so glad that you are with us today. I am so happy to have Barbara here. We’re sharing the word of God. We’ve been teaching all week on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. And in Acts chapter two, verse 17, Peter got up and preached on the day of Pentecost when they said, what does this mean? And he said, this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. God said that in the last days, he would pour out of his spirit on all flesh. And we are living in that day that God is pouring out of his spirit on all flesh. There actually are multitudes of people coming to Christ. In the Middle East, there are many, many people who were in Islam turning to Christ. It’s a complete miracle. But we see the spirit of God is being poured out on all flesh, all around the world. This is for every nation and every generation.

Amen, we’ve been talking about some aspects. We’ve been talking about the Holy Spirit is a free gift. We talked about how it gives us boldness and power to witness and takes the chicken right out of you, mentioned that. We’ve talked about how the Holy Spirit is our comforter. Jesus said, I’m not gonna leave you as orphans when we pray in this spirit, it edifies us and builds us up. And there’s something we just ran outta time yesterday and I’d like to pick it back up if you don’t… I wanna share something I think people really enjoy. If you don’t mind reading it again in the book.

It’s in second Timothy chapter one and I’ll read verse six and verse seven. And this is Paul talking to his son Timothy in the faith. And he says, I put you in remembrance that you stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the putting on my hands, for God has not given us a spirit of fear or timidity, but of power and of love and a sound mind.

I love that, I love everything that you just shared. We don’t have a spirit of timidity or spirit of fear, but power, love, and a sound mind. We are made in the image of God. We do know what to do and how to do it. We do have wisdom and intelligence, hallelujah. I love how the world always tries to speak something over you, that you’re just shy, you’re timid, or you’re stupid or you’re junk, but that’s not what you’ll read anywhere in the Bible.

  That is not the truth.

And I love… We’ve been talking about receiving the gift, the free gift of the Holy Spirit. We’ve been talking about how the disciples were to tear and wait for it. Now we don’t have to wait for it, it’s already here. We can receive it. But I liked what it said. A lot of times people receive this gift of speaking in tongues and then don’t do anything with it. And what you just read, I like how it says, I want to remind you to stir yourselves up. The only person that can stir us up is us. In other words, I’m married to you and you’re a ball of fire and you’re excited, but you can’t stir me up. You can definitely influence and encourage me, but I have to take hold and stir that up. And why would you wanna waste any time in this life being burnt out? Dr. Summerall talked about burnout. I don’t have time to be burnout and that’s what I believe for us, is we don’t have time to be burnout. There’s so many exciting things to do to tell people about Jesus Christ. But I want every free gift that the Lord has for me to help me in this life now. And so when I think about that scripture, I wanna remind you. So I just feel like right now there’s someone watching and you need reminded, stir that gift up. Do you know what happens when you don’t stir something up? Years ago when were first married, this is before we even had children, and we lived out in the country and we had animals, horses and cows and things like that. But I had this thought, I’m gonna cook a really good dinner and I saw everything I wanted. And then I had another thought, oh, we really need to have a dessert with this nice dinner. And so I just basically had to grab whatever was in the pantry. I didn’t have time to run to the store because again, we lived out in the country. And so I noticed that we had chocolate pudding. And it wasn’t the instant kind. This was the kind that you cook and stir and serve. It’s the kind of pudding you have to cook. And so I got excited, I looked on the box. I thought, okay, I’ve got the goods, got the box, I got the pan and I have milk. I only had to add something. I have milk. And so I got all the ingredients together. You can have all the right stuff, but what are you doing with all the right stuff? And so I got everything and stirred it up. Well, then I just got distracted. I got busy with some other things and it wasn’t too long, I started smelling something burning. And as I went over there to this cook and serve pudding, because I wasn’t there attending to it, it began to burn and stick to the bottom of the pan and I picked up the box and there was another statement in there that I overlooked. It said get the ingredients, stir them up, and then stir continually, so praise God.

And we need to do that. And you made a statement early in the broadcast that we don’t have to wait because the Holy Spirit’s been poured out and I know that all full gospel churches that teach on these things do not teach that. But if you look at this in Acts two, they tear it, and that was very specific reason till the day of Pentecost, the Feast of Pentecost when devout Jews were gathered together, the scripture says, from every nation under heaven. But in Acts chapter eight, they did not wait. Philip was preaching the gospel. They believed on Jesus, they were baptized. Jerusalem heard what was happening in Samaria, that Samaria had received the word of God. So Peter and John went down there and laid hands on the new believers that were already saved and baptized and they received the baptism of Holy Spirit. And then in Acts chapter 10 that we might get into today, in Acts chapter 10, Cornelius was a devout Italian. And he loved God, he was a gentile. He had not yet been saved or baptized in the Holy Spirit. But as he prayed, he prayed, the Bible says, and gave alms, he gave to the poor, the angel of the Lord came, he had a vision of an angel coming to him and said, go send over to Joppa. There’s a man named Peter. He’s staying at Simon the Tanner’s house by the seaside, and ask him to come over and preach. So he sent men the next day to go down there to Joppa. And they went down to find Simon at Tanner’s house and they found it. Peter happened to be up on the rooftop praying that morning. And Peter saw this sheet coming down, and it had all these different things that he, as a good Jewish person, had never eaten. I’m sure it had pork chops and bacon. Everything’s better with bacon. Man, bacon, chocolate, they make about everything better. I’m sure it had bacon on there. It had all these good things, ham, I’m sure it had shrimp and catfish, things that Jews don’t eat because it was forbidden by the law. And it said, arise, Peter, kill and eat. He said, no, I’m a good Jew, I’m a good law keeper. I’ve never done this. This happened three times. And after the third time, this sheep went back up. The first, then the second, then the third. Same thing happened all three times. Then the spirit said, Peter, there are men, I think three men that seek you at the gate, arise and go with them, don’t doubt anything. So Peter, because he had this vision, went with them. He goes over to Cornelius, the other town where Cornelius is, and preaches Jesus to them. And when he preaches Jesus to them, they believe on Jesus and receive Jesus as their savior. And the reason that the Jews know they’ve received Jesus is because the Holy Spirit falls on them. And they begin to speak in tongues as Peter is preaching. So they say, hey, can we forbid water to these who’ve received the Holy Ghost? Like this a sign to the Jewish believers that God has sent the Holy Spirit to the Gentiles and accepted the Gentiles like he did the Jews. So in this instance, they were actually saved and then baptized in the Holy Spirit and then they were baptized in water. That’s what happened to me, because I got saved in a church that did not believe that church started. They called them the Quakers started in the power of the Holy Spirit, but it’s amazing how many people start with the good things of God and move away from ’em. So they did not believe in water baptism or the baptism of Holy Spirit, but I received Jesus in that church. And then I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in a Bible study that Andrew Wommack was holding. This happened in, I believe it was October of 1978, that I was baptized in the Holy Spirit in Andrew’s Bible study and that was in my aunt’s apartment in Southeast Lamar, Colorado, and my life was forever changed for the good. And so I received the baptism of Holy Spirit and the word came alive to me, which Jesus said, the Holy Spirit will teach you all the things that I’ve said and bring them to your remembrance. That’s John 14, verse 26, Jesus talking about the ministry of the Holy Spirit. So just like that, the word came alive. I began just devouring the scripture and I saw, hey, in the Book of Acts, when they got saved, they got baptized. So I went to the church that were still going to, a church that my grandparents had helped start years before, 30 or 40, 50 years before they started that church. And I requested to be water baptized. And so they water baptized me in that church because they believed in salvation and water baptism. But that church did not believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. But I got saved and I got baptized in the Holy Spirit and then I went and got water baptized because I saw it in the scriptures. And you know what, we need to have a scriptural experience of the Holy Spirit. And so many people have that church, they said that they believed in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but in all reality, it was like the Father, the Son, and the holy who, because they did not really believe in this experience that I had received. And a number, actually, they actually kicked us out and my cousin Doug was here. He is a little older than me so he remembered it better when they did that. But they said, those of you who believe in speaking in tongues, you guys stay where you’re at. The others of you come over to this side. The pastor said, who believe like me. And so he kind of excommunicated the Holy Spirit. Not too sharp, right, not too sharp. Praise God, that church had run 75 to 100 people for years. There are always people being saved. It’s in a small eastern Colorado town, Lamar, Colorado, where I was raised. And that church immediately went down from that point in time to 10 to 20 people, stayed that way for about 10 years. And then by then, they got a pastor that was baptized in the Holy Spirit. They did not know it. And so he, by then, we were pastoring in Eastern Colorado, at Carson 60 miles away from Lamar and that pastor asked me to come down and preach. And I went down there and preach and guess what happened? People got saved, healed, set free by the power of God, just like happened everywhere I preach ’cause that’s what the Holy Spirit does. And we’re gonna come back and we’re gonna talk about what you need to do since you’ve received the Holy Spirit, praise God. The Holy Spirit will change your life for good, but you need to keep moving in the things of the Spirit. So we’ll be back right after this break, stay tuned. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today. And I want to tell you about a very special offer today and this week, we are offering Absolute Victory in Christ, my book on salvation, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and believing the word for a donation of any amount. Plus, we’re offering our teaching on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in audio or video download free of charge, bless you.

You can have nothing better than the word of God. Your ways are not better than his ways. Your thoughts are not better than his thoughts. Your morals are not better than his morals. Your righteousness is not better than his righteousness. I don’t care how many people vote a certain way or think a certain way about a certain issue. If God says it, that settles it. You don’t get a vote on truth.

Friends, I’m so glad you stayed with us. We’ve been teaching about the Holy Spirit. You said you gotta keep yourself stirred up. And you talked about Dr. Lester Sumrall talking about burnout. He’d get mad at people talking about burnout. I’ll tell you if you’re burned out, why you’re burned out. You’re burned out, number one, because you’ve not been fellowshipping with other believers and getting built up in the body of Christ and you’ve been burned up… Number two, and I should have said number one, because you’ve not been spending time with God and being built up personally. Your focus has been all on the world. Go to the world, preach. The Bible talks about ministering to the world, but it talks about ministering to one another in the body of Christ. It says this in first Peter, chapter four, verse 10, as many of you as have received the gift, so ministered the same, one to another as good stewards of the manifold, the many sided, the many faceted grace of God. It’s talking about ministering to one another. And the Bible talks about ministering to one another in the body of Christ like in a church, like in a fellowship of believers. Maybe you have a home fellowship, whatever it is, it talks about that twice as much as it talks about ministering to the world. But then it talks about ministering to the Lord twice as much as it talks about ministering to one another. So it talks four times as much about ministering to the Lord as it does ministering to the world, twice as much about ministering to each other in the body of Christ as it does ministering to the world. But if you minister to the world, if you make that your first ministry, the world will suck you dry and spit you out. The devil eat your lunch and pop the bag. And you can’t just keep going, going, going to the world without first being filled up by God and then staying in fellowship and building up each other in the body of Christ. But if you get built up in your relationship with the Lord and then you’re ministering to one another, the Bible says that God has set the members in the body, everyone as it pleased him, first Corinthians 12, verse 18, as it pleased him. Then it says, number three, number one, minister to the Lord. Number two, minister to one another. Number three, you go minister to the world, preach the gospel to the whole world. Amen, now, I want to talk about another scripture that goes along with what you were talking about in second Timothy chapter one. And in second Timothy chapter one, Paul tells Timothy, stir yourself up. God did not give you a spirit of fear or intimidation. Too many people intimidated by the devil. You need to get filled with the Holy Ghost and boldness. But I want to turn to Ephesians chapter five. And I wanna read this scripture in Ephesians chapter five and I want to talk about what it really means in the original language. Ephesians chapter five, and read with me. We’ll begin reading in verse 18. The scripture says here, do not be drunk with wine wherein there’s excess, but be filled with the spirit. Now, if you’re going to get drunk, you gotta drink. Now I’ve never been drunk with wine. I’ve been filled with the Holy Ghost, amen, and the Holy Spirit’s changed my personality. He’s done some great things for me. They tell people, if you get drunk, you become either a lover or a fighter, praise God. But the Holy Ghost, if the Bible talks about being filled with the Holy Ghost in joy. When the disciples were persecuted in Acts 13:52, it says, they ran ’em out of town, but they were filled with the Holy Ghost in joy, filled with the Holy Ghost in boldness. Amen, and the Holy Ghost will make you a witness, but it says, don’t be drunk with wine whereas in excess, don’t drink too much of it, but be filled with the spirit. And that word in the Greek, if you study it out, it means to be continually filled with the Spirit.

Well, if you’re gonna be continually filled, then that means you’re gonna have to do something.

You’re gonna have to continually drink, you’re gonna have to continually speak in tongues. And if you’re gonna get drunk and stay drunk with wine, and then you gotta keep drinking. You ain’t gonna stay drunk if you don’t keep drinking. But we’re talking about, he says, don’t be drunk with wine when there’s excess, but be filled. And in the Greek, you study it out. I’m telling you the truth, I’m not lying to you. In the Greek, it means to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit.

We read somewhere else just not too long ago to remind you to stay stirred up and that’s what we’re talking about. You need to stay stirred up.

So when we’re talking about this, we’ve shared this earlier this week, you don’t have to tear today to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, the initial gift of speaking in tongue. You don’t have to tear it, it’s already been given. You just need to believe it, ask it, believe it, and receive it, amen. Jesus said the Father will give the Holy Spirit to as many that’s asking. So in Acts chapter two, they were all filled and they all spoke with tongues. They didn’t carry 20 or 30, 40 days. When the Holy Spirit was poured out, they received it. Acts chapter 10, Peter preached the word and the Holy Ghost fell on. They believed on Jesus and the Holy Ghost fell on him and they spoke in tongues. And we’ll read later probably tomorrow in Acts chapter 19 about the elders of John at Ephesus. And Paul went to them and asked him, have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed they’re like the church I grew up in. We haven’t even heard of the Holy Ghost. Well, we heard of the Holy Ghost, but we didn’t know anything about it ’cause we didn’t teach on it. We didn’t know anything about the experience of the Holy Spirit. So as far as the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the manifestations, or what we call the gifts of the… We just didn’t know anything about it. We didn’t teach about it. But in Acts 10, Peter’s preaching the word and preaching Jesus and they believed on Jesus and received the Holy Ghost and started speaking in tongue. And then in Acts chapter 19, when Paul ministered to them, they were baptized and he laid hands on him. They were baptized in the name of Jesus, and he laid hands on him and they received the Holy Ghost and prophesied. The baptism only spirit’s like a doorway into all the other gifts. But here’s where you need to tear. You need to tear after you receive the Holy Spirit because there are lots of people who’ve received the Holy Spirit who at one time were baptized in the Holy Spirit in spoken tongues, but they haven’t spoken tongues for days or weeks or months, or even years. And they wonder why they’re so burnt out, why they’re so tired, why they’re so defeated. Many times when people come to me in counsel, I will tell them go home and pray in tongues for 30 minutes a day, for a week, and then come back and talk to me because the Holy Spirit is called the counselor. And in three or four days, they come back and say, pastor, we got our answer. Aaron told a young man that came to him the other day for counseling. He said, I’ll tell you what you need to do for a month, for 30 days, I want you to do nothing when you pray except pray in tongues and thank God. This young man was so focused on his lack, so focused on the problem, so focused on the difficulties in his prayer life, he just hashing over the problem and that will not bring you into victory. Jesus never said, talk to the mountain or talk to God about the mountain. He said, you speak. You speak to the mountain about God. You tell the mountain, you say to the mountain, be thou removed and be thou cast. You speak to the mountain. You don’t talk to God about the mountain. See, I saw some people years ago in our church when we were pastor in Eastern Colorado, they’d come out of prayer. They’d been in praying an hour or two, and they’d come out looking sad and depressed. I said, listen, you’re not getting in the presence of God. Boy, they gotta… The spirit of fight came on ’em. I said, no, you guys look terrible. You’re focusing more on the devil. You’re focusing more on the problem. You’re focusing more on the difficulty than you are on God. And that’s not what it should be. Prayer should bring you into the presence of God. What do you gotta do to get in the presence of God, say in the name of Jesus. Some people got all this religious malarkey, they make it all into works. Man, it doesn’t take me 10 seconds to get in the presence of God. It doesn’t take me 10 seconds to start speaking in tongue.

Well, then when we’re in the presence of the Lord, then there’s fullness of joy. There’s gonna be joy. So praise God, God is so good.

Yeah, that’s right. Psalm 16:11 says, you will show me the path of life for in your presence, there’s fullness of joy, there are pleasures forevermore. That’s talking actually about Jesus and his resurrection from the dead. But that’s what I told these people, and you know what? They’re still my friends. This is 30 years later, they’re still my friends. They still love me, amen, because you know what? They needed that word. And sometimes people the Bible says, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all authority. I was kind of giving ’em a little reproof and a little exoration. Let’s get in the presence of God. Let’s get happy, amen? The disciples were filled with the Holy Ghost and they were filled. And if you have never been baptized in the Holy Spirit, I want you to call our prayer ministers today. And I want you to receive this wonderful gift that God has given us, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is a wonderful gift. It will help you in so many ways. Barbara, you’ve changed so much since I knew you. Man, being filled with the Holy Ghost has changed your life.

A lot of times people tell me, you smile all the time and it’s like when you’re spending time in that presence of the Lord and when you’re speaking in tongues and praying in the spirit, we’ve brought it out all week long, it edifies you and builds you up. I know I walk a lot in the morning or walk a lot around the neighborhood. I love to be outside, but other people have acknowledged that too. You just seem so happy and it’s because of what Jesus has done for us. We’ve been bringing out not only receiving the gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but understanding that Jesus said, I have authority. I’m giving it to you. So we have authority, we don’t have to wake up every day feeling flat and defeated, but the devil is a defeated foe.

And then we have the baptism of the Holy Spirit that encourages the baptism of the Holy Spirit leads you into the gifts. This past Sunday, you went up and you worship for a little bit. And then you said, there’s somebody here right now, and you’ve got this pain. And you said, it’s not just little, it’s a lot of pain in your tooth right here in your jaw. You pointed to it on the right side. You were very specific. And then later after the second service, a woman came up to me and she said, I got this pain right here in my tooth. And I said, well, Barbara called that out. She said, well, I didn’t come forward, but I’m coming now. So we laid hands on her, and we both prayed for her and she got healed, praise God. God could take something just like that. And you operate a lot in the word of knowledge, which is a specific word of God’s knowledge that’s revealed by the Holy Spirit. It’s not naturally known. And you’ll call things out and different people get healed and set free. But you spend time continually in the presence of God. And we all need to spend time in the presence of God. Hey, before we go off today, pray for the people. And if you need prayer personally, call my prayer ministers. We have lots of people healed and helped and receive that baptism of Holy Spirit when they call in the office, amen.

Well, praise the Lord, we wanna just encourage you to receive that special gift of speaking in tongues. Hallelujah, and just keep yourself stirred up. But as were ministering, the Lord just laid it on me. There’s someone that you’re watching right now and you’ve got problems right here with just a cartilage. The Lord just showed me, it’s kind of like a bundle or a promise cartilage there in your nose and I’m just praying right now in the name of Jesus that that is healed. It’s just broke up, that that is just a healing taking place right now so that you can breathe easier and sleep easier and begin to sleep and have a full night’s sleep. He gives his beloved rest, hallelujah. So receive that. That’s for you, the Lord loves you. If you need anything, we have amazing prayer ministers waiting here to agree with you.

And we’re offering this week to anybody who calls in that’s in the United States of America, we don’t mail outside of the United States of America, our book Absolute Victory in Christ, and it talks about this experience of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. We’re offering this for a gift of any amount. So make sure you call in, blessings.
