The Holy Spirit Part 2 Transcript

Friends, I’m here with my good friend, pastor Bobby Crow from Victoria, Mexico, and we are talking today about how to be led by the spirit, and specifically the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26 says, “The Spirit prays through us with groanings that cannot be uttered.” We’re gonna talk a little bit about what that means and how that works in our lives as believers who are filled with the Holy Spirit. Blessings. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today, I have my good friend, Bobby Crow from Victoria, Mexico, and we are sharing on how to be led by the Holy Spirit, how to hear God’s voice. And we started yesterday a little bit sharing from Romans 8:14, that says, “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” And we wanna go there again. And we talked not only about that, we talked a little bit, and we’ll share more about that today, about the peace of God. And we’ll share from Colossians 3:15. But we’re gonna begin right here in Romans 8:14, he says, “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For we have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but we’ve received the spirit of adoption whereby we cried daddy God, the Spirit himself, bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs of God and join heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him, we may also be glorified together.” So he’s saying, as many of us as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Mm-hmm.

So when you’re a child of God, you have the Spirit of God on the inside of you, you have an inward witness.

Yeah.

And you are led by the spirit into the things of God. And he says, number one, he’s leading us into freedom. We haven’t received his spirit of bondage. So a lot of people think Christianity is about what you don’t do, but it’s really not about what you don’t do, it’s about what you get to do. And Romans 14:17, sins of the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the holy ghost. So when you’re being led by the spirit of God, you’re being led into the right way to go, in the right standing with God, in God’s ways, and you’re being led by peace, right, and joy. If you’re going against the spirit, it’s gonna be hard for you really to operate in joy. The Bible says the disciples were filled with joy and with the holy ghost. So we’re being led, and it’s not so much what we’re not doing, but what we get to do. And he says, we’ve received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry, “daddy God.” So the Spirit leads us into being God’s own children, God’s sons and daughters. And he says, “He bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” So we know that we’re God’s children because we have this Holy Spirit witnessing on the inside of us. And it’s not something that, it’s just like, you know that you know, that you know that you’re God’s.

But it’s just like, we were talking about yesterday, about a confirmation of the Spirit. We have the Holy Spirit inside of us. The confirmation in making the right decisions is gonna be the peace of God. And it talks about let the peace of God rule and reign in your heart. Well, as God, as the Holy Spirit directs us, when we’re going in the right direction, we’re always gonna have peace in our heart.

Amen.

And that’s a confirmation from God. Thank God for the Holy Spirit. Lawson, I was raised a Baptist, in fact, I pastored two Baptist churches. I thank God for the Baptists, they love God. They have a great message of salvation. Most of them do not fully understand about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And even though I pastored a Baptist Church, there was something that, I knew that there was something that was missing in my life. And I had a brother that was a pastor, and he was spirit filled, and he talked to me about receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And there were things that, a lot of things I didn’t understand, and of course, with the Baptist, if you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues, if you said anything about it, you know, you were out of the Baptist, you were no longer a Baptist. And, but I got to the point that I saw what God was doing in the lives of people that had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that they were winning more people to God by accident than others did on purpose. And finally I reached the point and I said, God, I don’t care who you joined me to or who you separate me from, I want to be where you want me to be, that I can reach more people for you. And I left the Baptist, I thank God for the Baptist, but I thank God that I went in the direction of the Holy Spirit. And I’ve seen so many more things happen. And one of the things as we read, especially in the Book of Acts, when people first received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, one of the things we saw was just a tremendous move of God, a revival in Acts chapter two, when they first received the baptism. And finally Peter got up and he began to preach. Peter is the one that denied Jesus three times, said, “Oh no, I don’t know him.” But he was the first one that got up and began to preach and tell people about Jesus. And the Bible said, when he finished, 3000 people believed, and were baptized in water.

And then they said, “How can we receive this gift?” And Peter said, “Repent, be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For this promise is to you and to your children, and to as many as are far off, even as many as the Lord our God.” That’s about Acts 2:37 on down through verse 39. And we begin to realize it was not only them, it was their children, and then as many as the Lord our God shall call. And so I personally believe that God called everyone at the cross into salvation. Now you have to answer that call to salvation before you can even be a candidate for the baptism of the Holy Spirit that we’re talking about. But as a Baptist, you’d been born again. Your experience is not a lot unlike mine. I grew up in a traditional church and we grew up in the Church of God out of Anderson, Indiana. And it was not a church that believed at that point in time in the baptism, the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. So they believed in salvation and water baptism, but they did not believe in the baptism Holy Spirit with the speaking in other tongues. And anyway, we went to a Bible study when I was 14 years old. Now I was saved in a friends church because my parents were in a town, Penrose, Colorado, they had no church of God anywhere near there. So I was saved in this friends church, and then when I went to the Church of God, that’s where my grandparents started this church in Lamar, Colorado. They preached salvation, water baptism. However, I wasn’t water baptized. And then I went to Andrew Womack’s Bible study. My mom started going to Andrew’s Bible study, got me to go, got my dad to go, got my sister to go, changed our whole family, turned it right side up. But in Andrew’s Bible study, shortly after I went, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And when I received the baptism of the holy Spirit, what you’re talking about, I immediately knew that I was called into the preaching and teaching ministry. I didn’t know anything about the different aspects of it, but I knew that’s what I was gonna spend my life doing. And we were still going to this Church of God on Sundays, and then we had this Thursday night Bible study with Andrew Womack that we went to. And so when I got baptized in the Holy Spirit, I started reading in the scriptures and I saw, boy, when people get saved, they got baptized. So I went to the church that preached that and said, “Hey”, and I had never seen anybody baptized in that church, even though they preached it.

And so I talked to the, minister, and they water baptized me. They had a baptism up there, they filled it up and got it ready to baptize me. And on a Sunday morning, praise God. And it was real to me because what happened when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, was the word of God came alive to me. And you saw it as a Baptist, you saw your need for it, and you saw what it did in people’s lives. And so I thank God for the Baptist. My grandfather was a Baptist, and if it wasn’t for the Baptist, we wouldn’t have a lot of Pentecostals. ‘Cause Baptists reach out and get a lot of people saved. And I thank God for what they preach. I still thank God, I’ve got a lot of good friends who are Baptists, and I’ve had friends over the years that are Baptists, a lot of them undercover are baptized in the Holy Spirit. And so thank God for this experience.

But see, this is one thing, when the Holy Spirit was poured out in Acts chapter two, that’s when the church started. And you saw not only just the apostles, but then you saw believers. And it talks about, there’s places where it talks about the believers because of persecution. They left Jerusalem, they began to go other places and share the gospel because of the power and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. This is one of the things that pastors, churches and we’ve gotta understand, we’re not going to finish in the flesh what was started by the spirit of God.

Amen.

And we’ve gotta get started, we’ve gotta get stirred up again. And realize that we all need this fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Amen. My wife and I, we don’t travel in the United States hardly ever. We come up here once a year and we minister for you, and then we teach in Andrews Bible school for one week, and then we stay for a minister’s conference. But then other than that, that’s it. I have a friend that’s a missionary in Victoria, he’s a kind of member of our church, he travels, he comes up and travels to many churches here in the United States, and he comes back and he tells me, he said, “The majority of the churches that he goes to that are spirit filled”, he said, “Very rarely do they give an invitation for salvation, and they never mention the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” And I thought, “What kind of church is that?” I tell you, if we’re going to finish this thing being victorious in our lives and our church, I tell you, we’ve got to be full of the Holy Spirit and go out under that anointing.

That is such a word from God. We’re not gonna finish in the flesh what God started in the Spirit. And this is really a sad thing, but I was baptizing the Holy Spirit in 1978. Really, at the end of the charismatic movement. And in the charismatic movement, God raised up a lot of people like you and I from these traditional churches. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit. And then he raised up from that group of people, apostles, prophets of angels, pastors and teachers, the fivefold ministry. And so we had this whole new group of churches start, like this one. And yet a lot of these churches that started in the power of the Holy Spirit have went away from the preaching of the Holy Spirit. You know, I have a good friend, I had him for years, and he was here and he ministered for me, and at the end of the service, rather than give an altar call, he spent nine minutes selling his books. And I was so frustrated with it, I talked to him after the service and he got mad at me, and I’ve given him 100s of 1000 dollars over the years. He got mad at me and broke off relationship with me because I talked to him about that. But what has happened that we are not giving alter cost for salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit? and what has happened to the church. This is a tragedy. And it seems like a lot of these charismatic churches are almost ashamed of the Holy Spirit, not unlike the church I came from. And I have more grace for a Baptist that’s baptized in the Holy Spirit, and maybe than a charismatic or full gospel person who’s turned away from that experience or who doesn’t wanna let people, they’ve made it a back room issue. Well, on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out, it wasn’t in a back room, it was in the middle of one of the biggest feast days of the year, there were devout Jews gathered together from every nation under heaven, and right in the middle of everything in Jerusalem when that feast was going on, God poured out the Holy Spirit and all these people, you can read about it in Acts chapter two, from different backgrounds, from different cultures that were there, were baptized, they heard, right, they heard these Galilee and disciples speaking in other tongues, and talking about the wonderful works of God, and Peter said, people said, “What does this mean?” And Peter got up and preached, this is what Joel said in the last days, God said he would pour out of his spirit on all flesh. And as Peter preached Jesus, who you crucified, God raised him from the dead and he sent forth this that you see, this is a work of God. And I agree so much with that word, that we will not finish in the flesh what God started in the Spirit.

One of the things, we need to emphasize people watching the program right now, let me tell you something, if you haven’t received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you need to receive it. It’s extremely important. If you wanna live a victorious life, you’re not gonna live a victorious life without the anointing of the Holy Spirit in your life. And here’s another thing that they don’t mention about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but once in a while they might say something, but they never talk about speaking in tongues. And I’m telling you, speaking in tongue is an extremely powerful manifestation of the Spirit of God.

Amen.

And you know, it’s like, like I could say, and people say, “Well, what’d you say?” I said, I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to God.

The spirit was praying through you, the perfect will of God.

And it says that you’re talking to God.

And your mind doesn’t get involved with that.

Yeah.

That’s why we’re praying the perfect will to perfect plan of God when we’re praying in the Holy Spirit, and we’re talking about being led by the Holy Spirit, but one of the most powerful ways you can be led by the Holy Spirit is pray in tongues. And as Paul said, “I let him that prayeth in an unknown tongue pray that he might interpret.” And a lot of times when I go to praying in tongues in a little bit, God will begin to gimme revelation and I’ll begin to understand which way to go and what to do in this situation. So thank God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We’re gonna take a break for just a few seconds. If you want to, you can call in right now. I have prayer ministers that are there that are answering the phones that, we have a lot of people call in and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, receive this wonderful gift of God for you, and it will help you in life. So we’re gonna be back right after this break, so stay tuned. Friends, I wanna share about the special offer that we have today. We’ve been teaching about spiritual gifts and not to be ignorant, and we have some great teaching available on this. I have a series on understanding spiritual gifts, which is on the nine manifestations of the Holy Spirit. I have a teaching on gifts, gifts and more gifts, which is talking about the nine manifestations of the Holy Spirit, it’s talking about the five ministry gifts given by Jesus, and also the seven motivational gifts, which I believe are given by God the Father. And so there’s a lot of instruction in teaching to help you move forth in the anointing that is on your life. And finally, with this package, I’ve included this book, “Absolute Victory in Christ”, where we talk about receiving Jesus as your savior, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, which is like a doorway into all these gifts and believing the word of God. You don’t have to be ignorant concerning spiritual gifts. Praise the Lord friends, I’m glad that you stayed with us and we’re gonna continue sharing about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We talked about being led by the Holy Spirit, Romans 8:14, and how the Holy Spirit leads you into freedom. And also the Holy Spirit leads you into what your divine rights and privileges are in Christ. Now, we said one thing that you need to receive in Christ is you need to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In Romans 8:26, Paul goes on to say, “Likewise the Spirit helps our weaknesses for we don’t know how to pray like we should, but the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be uttered. Now, I read one translation of that, or paraphrase, and it said, “With groanings that cannot be uttered in an intelligent language.” Now, I actually believe that has some to do with praying in the spirit, praying, you know, and Paul talked about this in Romans, or excuse me, in 1 Corinthians 14, he’s given some instruction on the gifts, and he’s telling him, when you come together, you need to speak some words in intelligent language so people can understand what you’re saying. At the same time, some people use that and try to say, well, you should never pray in tongues when you’re in a public meeting. Well, I don’t believe that’s what’s being said at all. Because Paul goes on to say, he says, “I thank God I speak in tongues more than you all.” And he says, “When I pray with the Spirit, my understanding is unfruitful.” And so he says, “I will pray with the spirit, I will pray with the understanding.” So just like you took a little bit before the break and just prayed in tongues, when you’re baptizing the Holy Spirit, you can pray in tongues at will.

At any time.

And I believe your spirit is praying the perfect language of heaven. It’s like a hotline to heaven, the perfect will of God. And I believe the advantage of praying in the Holy Spirit is your mind doesn’t get involved. And the the battlefield is the mind. And that’s where the devil tries to attack us a lot of times as believers is in the mind. But when we start praying in the Holy Spirit, we begin to pray specifically to God. And a lot of times when I’m praying in tongues, then I’ll begin to get revelation, I’ll begin to get understanding. And then I’ll know how to move forward in the natural.

Yeah. Praise God. Now, Lawson, I’ve told you the story about, several years ago, I had to go to the, I had to drive up to the border to take some up there. And I’m coming back, I’m driving my pickup truck, I’m driving back to Victoria, and I’m listening to gospel music on the radio. And all of a sudden I felt, you know, I just need to pray in tongues. And so for about 30 minutes, I just began to pray in tongues, and after about 30 minutes, I topped a hill, and there were four guys standing over on the side of the road with AK-47s waving at me to stop, and I wouldn’t stop. And they shot the back tire of my truck, and the tire began to come apart, and I had to start slowing up. And they came up in their truck and trying to stop me. And I slammed my truck into theirs. And we had a major deal, but finally I stopped. When I stopped my truck, one of the guys came over with the butt of the rifle and he hit the window in my door, but it didn’t break. But when I put the truck in park, it unlocked the doors. And another guy opened the door, and grabbed and pulled me out. And they pulled me back to the back of the truck. And one guy shoots into the ground there at my feet and telling me, “Get in our truck.” You know, they’re gonna kidnap me. And I just stood there and I pointed my finger at him and I said, no, in the name of Jesus Christ, I’m not doing that. Another guy comes up, grabs me above the shirt, yanks on me, tried to turn me around, he couldn’t move me. And they began to back away. Now they end up, they stole my truck, but they end up leaving me on the side of the highway. Well, what happened there? I was not afraid, I had peace. And I’m telling you, I scared the stuffings out of those guys because they did not understand what was going on. But they got away from me. And I believe what it was, was a time that God prepared me by having me pray in tongues for what was about to happen.

[Lawson] Amen.

And this is one of the things, we all go through problems, maybe not quite like somebody trying to kidnap you or whatever, but I tell you there’s times that you just feel impressed to pray in tongues. Thank God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and praying in tongues that we can pray in tongues and the Holy Spirit is preparing us for something that’s about to happen, just like for me. And last night I shared in a Bible school, I shared that story, and a woman came up to me, she said, “Well, if you were praying in tongues, why did God allow that to happen?” I said, “Well, I’m not sure.” She said, “Well, it shouldn’t have happened.” I said, “Wait a minute, Jesus got with his disciples. He said, ‘Let’s get in a boat and let’s go to the other side.'” They follow him, they are with Jesus, and a storm comes up. You know, well, God had me pray in tongues, you know, but a storm came up against me. But.

The good news is God supernaturally protects you.

Yeah.

He prepared you.

Yeah.

You ended up even getting your truck back.

Yeah, I got truck back.

And your phone happened to be under the seat turned on.

Yeah.

And so the police in Mexico were able to find your truck.

Found my truck.

And your son figured out something was, he heard this conversation going on between them and you and the gunshots fired. So they were able to come and find you. The police found you and you were protected. You got your truck back. Everything in the end was good. And praise God, God takes care of us.

Well, people that’s watching right now, you need to understand, I don’t care if you go to church where they talk about the baptism or not, I tell you it’s in the Bible, and you need to read Jesus. Jesus gave a command in Acts chapter one, he gave a command to his disciples, “Don’t leave Jerusalem until you receive the promise of the father, which is the in filling of the Holy Spirit.” And it was not only for those disciples, but it is a promise from a word from God for us. I believe he’s commanding us that we wait and you receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

Amen. So, thank God. My wife grew up in a church kind of like yours, a traditional church, and the pastor got up and read these scriptures from the book of Acts on speaking in tongues and then said, “Speaking in tongues is not of God.” And you know, she was a little girl, seven or eight years old, she thought, that’s in the Bible, that’s of God, that’s for me. And then when she was 13, she ended up going to a spirit filled church and receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and her whole life changed for good.

You know, when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, I was in Bible school and the directors of the Bible School called my pastor and told him about it, and when I went back home, I went to church and he got up and he preached and he said, “Speaking in tongues is like turkey gobbling.” Well, it’s because he didn’t understand it. And I knew he was wrong, I didn’t say anything to him or about it, but I just knew what I had was from God. And it was extremely important that I have it.

Listen, I grew up in a church that, like I said, did not teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit, did not, you know, in fact, when we got in this Bible study, eventually they kicked us out. They said, “Everybody that believes in speaking in tongues, you stay where you’re at. Everybody who doesn’t, stand up and come forward.” My grandparents helped start that church some 50 or 60 years prior to that. And you know what? They basically excommunicated the Holy Spirit. And that was in a small eastern Colorado town. That church went at that point in time from about 70 to a 100 people, and a major move of the spirit down to about 10 to 20 people, and stayed that way for years till they got a pastor that was baptized in the Holy Spirit, they didn’t even know it, and the church went right back up to 70 to a 100 people, and God was moving by spirit. So we need the baptism, the Holy Spirit. If you need prayer, if you wanna receive this wonderful gift from God, if you want material or become a partner with us, be sure and give us a call right now.
