Praise the Lord friends and welcome to the broadcast. I’m so glad that you’re here today. I’m here sharing with my wife, Barbara. We’re teaching from her series, “Present to Heal”. Thank God Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, and he is present to heal. And today we’re gonna be talking about walking in our God-given authority as believers so that we can see the power of God manifest in our life. Open your heart. Bless you.

Praise the Lord, friends. We are so glad that you’re here today. I’m really happy to have Barbara teaching with me all of this week. And we’ve been sharing from your series, Barbara, “Present to Heal”. And thank God, just like in the days of Jesus, the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Many times in our services we recognize that the power of the Lord is present to heal people. You know, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. And he physically ministered on the earth 2000 years ago, but Jesus is still ministering on the earth through the power of the Holy Spirit, working through the body of Christ. And, praise God we can go in the authority of Jesus. Jesus gave us the power of attorney to use his name. And when we go in the name of Jesus, we’re actually operating in the power of attorney that Jesus gave us to use that name. And we can see sick people set free from demonic power and from sickness and disease.

Amen. We’re just gonna start off with a couple of scriptures that just tell this, that Jesus says, I have authority, and not only that, Jesus said I have authority, and then I’m giving it to you. A lot of times, people don’t realize that you have authority to speak in the name of Jesus to a situation, a situation that might look hopeless. And so this is in John 10:17. Let me get there John, 10:17 through 18. It says, “Therefore, My Father loves Me because I lay down My life and I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down in Myself. I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it up again. This command I have received from My Father.” And I just want you to look with me at Luke 10:17. We’re just establishing something here. So let’s turn to Luke. I gotta get back to Luke. There it is, 10:17. I love this, what it says here. Again, Luke 10:17 through 19. Well, let’s just look at verse 19 here, but it says, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

[Lawson] Praise God.

Hallelujah.

So Jesus had authority and Jesus walked in authority. In fact, when he opened up his ministry in Luke chapter four, they marveled that Jesus spoke, with such authority, and then he acted with such authority. And they said, he doesn’t teach as scribes, but he teaches as one with authority and with power. And Jesus spoke, right? With power. Jesus taught with power. Jesus cast out devils with power. Jesus healed the sick with power. Amen? The power of the Lord was present in the life of Jesus, in the ministry of Jesus to heal the sick. And Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. And just like the power of the Lord was present to heal them in the book of Luke, the power of the Lord, many times we sense this in our services, is present to heal people.

Amen. I like what you shared in one of the other broadcasts about if you wanna see healing, it needs to be taught. People need to understand what the will of the Lord is concerning us. What is the will of the Father? That he does love us, that he did send Jesus who took stripes on his back. The battle’s already been won. The victory’s already been won. A lot of times, people really feel like they’ve had curses spoke over them. Or, the family DNA has curses of certain family history of health problems.

Listen, do not believe that lie. Some of these people, Pentecostals, and I’m a Pentecostal, specifically teach these lies about generational curses. When you came into Christ, God became your Father. Therefore, if God is your Father, what generational curse can you inherit from God your Father? You can’t receive any generational curse from God, your Father. Because God doesn’t have any curses to give you. And you know what, people have bought into these lies. And it’s a sorry excuse to just let the devil play havoc in your life. And so don’t buy the lies. Buy the truth of the word. Amen? Believe the promises of God, believe what the word of God says. I’m here to tell you, the scripture says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that you would prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” Third John chapter two. And when your soul prospers in the knowledge of God, in the knowledge of the word of God, you can prosper physically and financially, no matter what the economy, and you can be in health. You know, when this pandemic started, Barbara, you started saying, ‘My body has every antibody it needs, it has every T-cell it needs. And I’m not having this.’ And you know what? You never had one bit of that sickness or disease in your body. You never had one symptom. You didn’t have a runny nose. You didn’t have a cough. You didn’t have a fever. You never had anything. But about a year and a half into this thing, nearly two years, your dad got really sick. He’s up in his eighties. And he kept working. He never missed a day of work in his whole life.

[Barbara] That’s right.

And he kept on working and got more sick, with that COVID and they had to take him to the hospital by ambulance. And then his wife had got sick and she had to go, right? And so we had to go pick him up at the hospital and bring him to our house. But before the medical professionals allowed me to go get him and bring him to our house, they wanted to see that you had the antibodies. And so I had had a antibody test because I told my doctor, I had it. I didn’t hardly have any symptoms, but I just stayed away from people. But my doctor took my blood and said, “Yeah, you’ve had it. You’ve got the antibodies, don’t worry about it.” And so they went and they took your blood. But my doctor said that you would have the antibodies, your dad’s doctor said that you would have the antibodies. We had one of the doctors here at Reawaken America, he said you’d have the antibodies. And they took your blood and they said, “Yep, you got the antibodies.” You never had a sniffle. You never had a fever. You never cough. You didn’t have anything, period, zero! And you had the antibodies because you got what you confessed. You possessed what you confessed. And glory to God. Sometimes people just buy this lie. You know, Aaron talked about this and in Australia, while this COVID was going on, they did a survey and they asked how many people think if you get the COVID you’ll die. It’s like 40% of the people. And in all reality, it was less than four tenths of 1% of people that got that, died. Just ridiculous. Cost the world all kinds of money, the economy, all kinds of money. ‘Cause these governmental leaders trying to control. Really a lot of that’s about control. But praise God, we’ve got victory no matter what the devil tries to throw at us, no matter what goes down in the world. We can prosper and we can be in health, in any economy as our soul prospers. Because that’s what the Bible says.

Well, hallelujah, and we’re talking about understanding authority. And as you were speaking and quoting different scriptures and things, it reminded me of a story about my grandmother. I was so close to my grandmother. She lived into her nineties, but when she was a younger woman in her late thirties, early forties, she had some problems with her heart and she was actually at the doctor’s office and began to have these problems and she almost died. And, like I said, I didn’t know all this. Alls I knew is that my grandmother, all the days I knew her, she was very healthy. She lived into her nineties and basically what they wrote on her certificate was that she had a heart attack. She didn’t have a heart attack. She fell asleep. She didn’t die with- my grandmother died healthy. And I was talking to my aunt about this. And my aunt mentioned how she had been sickly as a younger woman. And I said, well, what changed? How did she go from having heart problems as a young woman to living in her nineties and dying healthy. And my aunt said, she just decided she didn’t wanna live like that.

She made a choice of her will.

She made a choice of her will and of her authority. I don’t ever wanna have that happen again. I don’t wanna live sickly. You can turn that switch on to live and to be healthy.

I think our son, Peter, when he was two years old there was this disease going around with flapper throat. A lot of these kids died, swelling up, and we actually, his whole chest was sinking and stuff. We had to take him to the emergency room and we were believing God the whole time and praying. But they took it out of our hands and flew him, it’s when we lived in Southeast Colorado, flew in Flight for Life to Colorado Springs. But we believed and spoke the word. And you flew on the Flight for Life with him. And you said they put him in emergency room. They put him in,

[Both] ICU

But you said when all the meters and all the bells and whistles start going off to call the nurses, by the time they would get down there, Peter would already be well, overcome whatever challenge there that he was facing. And he came out of that. They said he’d be in the hospital at least two weeks. He wasn’t even in the hospital two days. The second day, the doctor came. So he got in there about midnight, stayed one whole day. And then the next day, the doctor came in to see him. And they had him on an IV and that thing had fell out and he was up running around the hallways and everything in the hospital. Doctor said, well, he can go home! He’s healed.

Amen.

Praise God. You believe the word, and the word works. But I think something switched in Peter’s brain when he was a little boy. And he went all through his early years in school from kindergarten clear through being a senior in high school, never missed one day.

[Barbara] Of being sick.

Of sickness.

Or, never, in all of his years in school, wasn’t sick. I think he made a decision in his mind, I’m not gonna be sick. I’m gonna be well. Praise God. And if you put your will in agreement with the will of God, and we know it’s God’s will for you to be healed and to have health.

[Barbara] Amen.

Because of what the scripture says.

[Barbara] Amen.

And if we start believing these promises, we can receive them. We can walk in ’em.

That’s right. I’m gonna read Mark 16:20. And then we’re gonna look at a perfect example of somebody who understood authority and understood the authority of God’s word. But in Mark 16:20, you’re talking about what we did with our son or different situations, but it said, “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through accompanying signs.” In other words, where believers go, these signs will follow them. God backs up his message or backs up his word.

[Lawson] Amen.

And that’s how we know what his will is. And that again, he’s the one who performs these things. He’s the one that brings life to a situation that looks so bad and can change a situation even if you’ve said, it’s like my grandmother, you’ve been sickly, but you have had enough of it.

[Lawson] Praise God.

You can take your authority that Jesus has given you. And this is in Matthew 8:5. And I don’t know if you had something else to share before we get into this story, but I love this. This is Matthew 8:5.

I can read it. Matthew 8:5.

Well, I’m gonna have you read it, but we mentioned this. I’m sorry, I get so excited. I love your personal testimony. We mentioned it just briefly at the end of the broadcast yesterday, but you heard the word of God as a teenager. You went to a Bible study and something said, listen to this man, this minister, he knows what he’s saying. The word of God came alive. It wasn’t just words on a page. It spoke and came alive in your soul and in your spirit. And you said with your mouth, your father had had problems, health issues. And even though that was in your family lineage, you said, I don’t have to be sick. I don’t have to be poor. And I don’t have to be defeated. You said that as a young person.

I went to Andrew Wommack’s meetings. I was saved when I was eight. We went to a traditional church and we didn’t know anything about believing for the promises, really. We’re saved, but we were stuck, right? And Andrew Wommack had a Bible study in our town. He had a Bible study in six towns in Southeast Colorado. This is in 1978, Southeast Colorado and Southwestern Kansas. And my mom told me if I would go to this Bible study with her, she’d buy me some fish bait. So she did that. I like fishing. I was a 14 year old country kid, you know? But anyway, Mama took me to Andrew’s meetings. And when I got there, Andrew was leading his own worship, had a 12 string guitar. Then he plugged his mic into this little Marantz cassette deck. On one cassette deck, he was his own praise and worship leader. He was his own sound person. And he started that thing on recording, held his Bible in his hand, just like this before he started to teach. And I was sitting over there in the corner of that living room and something in my spirit said, listen to this man. He knows what he’s talking about. Now, listen, I’m just 14 years old, saved, don’t know anything about what the promises really say, but the Holy Spirit’s living in me and speaks to me and I hear his voice. And that night I left that meeting with this mentality. I don’t have to be sick. I don’t have to be poor. I don’t have to be defeated by the devil. I have a Bible full of promises that I can believe. And I started believing, and listen, my life has got better and better and better. And it keeps getting better. Now I’ve had opportunities to die. I’ve had opportunities to go broke, but I just keep passing them up. And I keep believing God. Amen? And I’m healthy. And I’m prosperous. I’m blessed. Amen? And victorious. I’ve got what I’m believing for.

Amen. Amen. I love that. We’ll have some more personal stories to share with you. So don’t quit watching now. I really want us to read this story in the Bible about someone who understood the authority. We’re talking about, who has the authority, who has the authority over this sickness? Is it just the enemy, the devil? Is it you? Is it Jesus? What is going on? Who has authority?

We’ll be back right after this break. And we’ll jump into these scriptures. Praise the Lord, friends. We are teaching and sharing on the subject of divine healing. Thank God Jesus made provision for us at the cross. And we have just as much right to be healed in our body as we do to be forgiven for our sins. But how can we receive that in our life? We go through this in detail and I have a healing bundle that I’m sharing with you. I want to get this to you. The Bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. And I know these teachings will build your faith. I have, first of all, my series on “Covenant of Healing”. And then I have my series on “The Cross is the Cure”. And then we have my wife Barbara’s series and she’s a powerful teacher and ministers healing in a very powerful and anointed way on “Present to Heal” and how to receive divine healing and health in your life. Praise the Lord, friends, we’re back. And Barbara’s been talking about authority and how we can operate in our God given authority and receive healing in our body, peace in our mind, praise God. We can receive the promises of God through walk in authority and she has a scripture she’s gonna share.

So now we’re looking, if you have your scripture there, your Bible or your notes, write this down. This is found in Matthew 8:5 through 13. We’re talking about authority and understanding it and how to apply it today in our lives. And this is now when Jesus had entered Capernaum a centurion came to him, pleading with him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” In verse seven, Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I’m not worthy that you should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I am also a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come’ and he comes;” And ‘Do this,’ and ‘Do that,’ to my servant. And when Jesus heard this, this is verse 10, “He marveled and said to those who follow, ‘Assuredly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!’

Praise God.

Hallelujah.

And Jesus spoke the word. And it basically, in verse 13, it said, ‘Go your way as you have believed’ to this Centurion. ‘So let it be done for you.’ And his servant was healed in the same power.

Amen.

Praise God. You know, I like something Dr. Lester Sumrall said about healing. He said, Jesus, if you study the life of Jesus, he was either going to heal somebody or he was coming from healing somebody, or he was in the act of healing somebody. And Jesus Christ healed the sick. Praise God. And we can heal the sick, praise God, through the power of the word of God. And through using our divine authority through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can see sick people healed, ’cause Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

It says whatever we ask in his name, he’ll do it. And this is found in John 14:12 through 14. And it says this, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that My Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” It brings glory to him. Hallelujah.

Now look at really close again to what that scripture says. See, a lot of times people are challenged with this teaching but what does the scripture say? Jesus said, “He who believes on me, the works that I do and greater works than these shall he do because I go to My Father.” So what Jesus is saying, because of redemption, because I’m gonna go and shed my blood and pay the price, conquer the devil, be raised from the dead, send the Holy Spirit, because I go to my father, the same works that I do, shall you do also. And greater works than these. Praise God. He goes on and says, “Whatever you ask in my name”, I’m giving you the power of attorney to use my name. You know, the scripture says this in First Corinthians, chapter two, if the princes of this world would’ve known what was gonna happen when they crucified the Lord of glory, they never would’ve done it. You know what they thought? They thought that when they crucified Jesus, they thought, ‘We’ve won’. Little did they know, that Jesus would go to the grave, conquer the enemy, be raised from the dead, send the Holy Spirit. And just a few weeks later, there would be 3,120 people filled with the Holy Spirit, filled with authority, going in the same power of attorney, the power of attorney of using Jesus’ name, that Jesus had. Praise God. And turning the world right side up.

Amen.

Praise God. And so we’ve got authority to go and do the works of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit and through the authority he’s given us, he’s invested in us, in his name.

I want you to explain in case someone doesn’t quite understand really the significance, what does it mean when you say ‘power of attorney’?

Well, power of attorney. So one time, I was going on a mission trip and I went to Finland. It was in the winter and they need people to preach. A lot of people don’t wanna go to Finland in the winter. And so I went there, it’s very dark. It was almost dark. We were up by the North Pole preaching and you barely see the glimmer at the top of the sky that time of year. But we were preaching all up and down, through Finland, Northern, Southern. And, I had an order to buy some cattle. And so I told you, ‘Now, listen, if these cattle come in at this price, then you write a check.’ And it was a couple of hundred cattle. And you know what? You wrote the check and paid for those cattle that came in, while I was gone to Finland. You signed my name, praise God, and sent the check. And that covered those cattle. Had the same thing happen. I had a man in Kit Carson when we pastored there, and I started buying cattle. First I would buy cattle for him, certain size and weight, and cattle for me, a little smaller cattle, certain size and weight. When I’d come back, he’d tell me where I did good and where I did bad. And he would instruct me. But then, after a while he said, ‘You just take my checkbook and just sign my name.’ And so I’d be buying my cattle and pay for him with my check. I’d take his check, pay for his cattle. And then one time I was visiting with the banker who ended up coming to our church, being filled with the Holy Spirit. Now’s a great friend of ours, but the banker said, I told the banker, this is what I’m doing. I’m signing his check. And he said, ‘Now this is what you need to do. You need to sign his name by Lawson Purdue.’ So they know that I wrote that check. And he said, we’ll cover it. I said, okay. So I signed, his name is Irvin. I said, Irvin Mitchick by Lawson Purdue. He gave me the power of attorney to use his name. And Jesus has given us the power of attorney, right? To use his name.

Amen.

So he paid for- see God promised it. Jesus paid for our healing, for instance, that we’re talking about, in his death and resurrection. By his stripes, we were healed. Right? Now we have the power of the Holy Spirit, but we have the authority to use the name of Jesus.

That’s right.

So when we come in the name of Jesus, it says, Jesus himself,

Yes.

is there.

So I think we have just enough time. I’m gonna share a personal story of my own, of what it means, walking in authority, understanding the power of attorney, then I’m gonna have you share something that just happened a week ago in a church service here. But when we were raising our three sons, our middle son was really just, I’m just gonna say plagued or pressed with asthma. He was just a little boy. And this is where, when we lived in rural America, there was no doctor’s offices, no hospital. So, it’s kind of a bad, challenging thing to deal with, people’s breathing when there’s no help nearby. And we hung up the healing scriptures all over our house. We were believing, we were standing on God’s word. We were full of his word. And I’m gonna tell you what you put in is what’s gonna come out. Anyway, there was a track and field day and our middle son, he was in about fifth grade and he was running the half mile. And this was again, a rural area, rural America,

[Lawson] Sheridan lake.

Sheridan lake. So the nearest makeshift or a very small hospital was about-

[Lawson] Thirty miles away.

Thirty miles away. And if you have a breathing problem, if someone quits breathing, you have three to four minutes to get it fixed, or you’re gonna have damage. Anyway, he was running this race when an asthma attack hit him and he didn’t wanna stop running, ’cause he was ahead. So everyone could see that he was struggling, but he kept running anyway. And I went to meet him at the finish line. And as soon as he ran past that finish line and everyone else could see what I was seeing. He collapsed in my hands and I just thought, if I let him fall to the ground, my son is gonna die. And you gotta remember, I was out in the middle of nowhere. We had been believing God for his healing for a period of time, healing scriptures, everywhere. But this is why I really feel so compelled to teach on understanding authority today. There was no other way. No one was gonna get there in time to help us. In fact, one of his little classmates came running up. Everyone could tell something was wrong. Everyone wanted to help. But his little classmate came running up and said, ‘Where is your son’s inhaler? I’ll go get it.’ And I thought, I forgot it. And I said it out loud. I said, I forgot it. And in front of everybody, this little boy said, ‘What kind of mother are you?’ And you gotta remember the word, the scripture was in me. And I didn’t say it aloud, but my spirit rose up. And I thought, ‘I’m the kind of mother that knows how to pray.’ And I began to pray over my son and rebuke that spirit of infirmity, rebuke that asthma attack and commanded his airways to open up. And everybody saw this happening. I didn’t care what I looked like. Sometimes faith might make you look ugly, but you know what? I prayed for him. There was no other means for an intervention here. It had to be God. I took my authority over that spirit of infirmity. Our son was healed and never needed his inhaler ever again.

No. He kept it with him for two or three more years when he went to school and when he went to practices, but he never had to use it after that. He never took it again. He ended up winning the four by one with his little brother, Peter, when he was a senior in high school being one of the top four, five running backs in all of the Four A schools outta 60 some schools in the state of Colorado. Praise God, he is healthy and strong to this day because the word works. And you wanted me to share that instance. But I was recently called on, in between services on Sunday morning, we had the head of our prayer team. He said, pray for me. And he fell back in the chair and they came and ran and got me. And I ran over there and I could see his eyes rolled up in his head. He, was white, sweating. I could tell he was under cardiac arrest. They took his pulse, said his pulse had stopped, but I laid hands on him and I commanded his heart to work. I commanded his blood to flow. His eyes came back, rolled back and he started talking to us. We got him in a wheelchair, set him down. His wife wanted to get him checked. We sent him down to Penrose Hospital. They couldn’t find a thing wrong with him because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
