Insights Into Faith Part 1 – Transcript
Friends, I’m so glad that you’ve tuned in with us today. I have my good friend, Jesse Duplantis with me, and we’re going to be talking about the subject of faith. I believe that Jesse is one of the fathers of our faith. And he made a statement years ago, most of the time, in the realm of faith, I made a decision and God backed it. So we’re going to be talking about that. So stay tuned. You’re going to learn some great things and we’re so glad that you’re watching today. Blessings.
Friends I’m so glad that you’re with us today. And I have my good friend, Jesse Duplantis here.
Hey my man. How you doing sir?
Jesse, we’re so honored to have you here at the church. We just had a wonderful service and I told Jesse, Hey, I want you to record a couple of TV programs with me.
Yes indeed, I’ll do that all day.
And I wanted to talk to you about the subject of faith.
Yes, I know something about it.
You’ve been coming here every year since 2011, so for the last 11 years every year. But you made this statement and it stuck with me. And you said, most of the time, in the realm of faith, I made a decision, and God backed it.
And he backed it every time. Because you see, you got to understand what Hebrews 11:6 said, that you can’t please him without faith. Some people tried to please him with works. Christianity’s done that for years and for thousands of years there’s still a lot of people, and Christianity has been around, and Jesus is still dead to them. And the reason for that is because they don’t understand faith that he’s a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. So everything I’ve ever done, I’ve done it through faith. Faith is a thread of the fabric of God’s clothes. This beautiful coat that you’re wearing, it’s made up of threads, but if the right person to put it together, you could put it on and it becomes a garment. You see, and people see that color, see that it fits you. And faith will fit you if you let God fit you. God is like a tailor in a sense. He will fit you with the love of faith, and everything I’ve ever done in my life, it’s done by faith. And God gave me that statement many years ago. He said, make a decision and I’ll back it.
Praise God.
And I thought, yeah, I would prefer for you to make the decision. Now listen to me, when you understand what I’m talking about, he said, why? ‘Cause you scared you might miss it? I said, well, no. He said, Jesse, are you made in my image? Are you made in my likeness? Do you know my voice? I said, I certainly do. My sheep know my voice and a stranger they will not follow. So you’re not watching this by accident. Let me look at my camera here. No, no, you are here ’cause God wanted you here. And don’t put your faith in the future or what it can be. Faith was not made for the future. Even though it has the ability Lawson to create a future. It was made for the now. Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is. But the church don’t preach that like that. You know what they say, is faith now? No. Now faith is, so don’t you want it quick? Don’t you want it quickly? I mean, you know what, I mean we Americans, we came up with fast food. And then we get mad if Wendy’s or McDonald’s spend more than 30 seconds to fix a hamburger for you, but when you understand how faith will work, and it will work, not some of the time, all the time. But you got to believe it.
Faith is a spiritual law.
Yes, sir.
And Paul makes a statement in Romans 3:27. “He says, boasting is excluded. And he says, by what law? By the law of faith.” So just like there are laws that govern the natural realm. Faith is a law that governs the spiritual realm. And part of that you talked about, so we make that decision, and we make it because we know God’s voice.
Oh yes indeed.
I like to say great people of faith are people who know God. Andrew Womack is a man that knows God.
That’s right.
And when he hears God’s voice, he moves boldly forward in faith, you’re a man that knows God. And you move boldly forward. And people of faith to me are very decisive people. They hear the voice of God, they follow God. They’re going a direction.
Well faith without works is dead. Faith will make you work. Now you know what? I’m going to tell you something. I live in New Orleans. You live in Colorado Springs. But I promise you, if Lawson Perdue is behind a wall somewhere and I hear his voice, I know that’s you. Now the name of your television.
Grace for Today.
But you know, people say we’re saved by grace. Well you got to have faith to believe that. It’s all interconnected and connected together. And all God wants to do is be a blessing to his family. I find when you talk about your church, all you want to do is be a blessing to your church. And people don’t understand. They think preaching is easy. Well the pulpit stuff, the delivery is not bad. It’s the study and all it takes to get to that pulpit so you can understand what God is saying. See? So I live by faith, not on a Sunday basis, on a daily basis.
Faith is a lifestyle.
It is. It is.
A lot of times people think, well that was a faith movement. Now to me there’s two major themes in the gospel. There’s a theme of grace. And grace is essentially what God’s done for us. In the person of Jesus when he died and rose again. And faith is our positive response toward the gospel in faith.
That’s right.
Galatians 5:6 says, “faith works by love.” And if you understand the context of what Paul’s saying there, he’s saying, when you understand the love of God for you. When you understand the grace of God, it causes your faith to work. I like to say it this way. Faith comes alive in the presence of God.
When it’s a title deed. See, when you have title to your car, you own it. When you have title to your house, you own it. Well grace is that title deed. I mean faith is that title deed for the grace. And it’s amazing to me. I love grace, and people say, but it’s not the only thing in the Bible. But it’s mixed up with everything in the Bible. And when you understand faith is a title deed to receive that grace. So in other words, if you mess up, everybody’s messed up. People make mistakes. And devil says, well bless God. That’s it, you’re not going to make it. But faith says, oh yes you are. Oh you got to understood is that word called grace. Because you saved by grace. So thank God for that. But it takes faith to believe it. Now you asked me to come on your program. At the time that you asked me, watch this, you couldn’t see me. He couldn’t hear me, he couldn’t touch me, he couldn’t smell me. He’s in Colorado Spring, I’m in New Orleans, his staff and my staff are working together. And I got a little email. Well my staff got the email, would you do a program for me? Yes. Now you know you didn’t send back this. Are you sure? You think you’re going to make it? Oh, because I can’t see, no, you accepted that by faith.
When you said that word, I accepted that word, I believed it.
Well you got to understand about scripture and God’s word. You can’t separate God from his word. Now, denomination, non-denomination, inter-denomination does that. See I call that religion. I went past religion years ago to relationship, and then I went past relationship years ago to fellowship to the point it’s like this. Hello Jesus. Hi Jesse. Kind of like that, you see? And that’s what I’m talking about. So when you asked me to come, and when I’ve been coming since 2011, what a blessing of God. And I just enjoy it because, and when I tell you I’m coming, you don’t deny that, you say he’s coming. You tell people I’m coming. Now people will drive, buy gasoline, and everything and they can’t see, smell. We’re not in the realm of the five senses. But what they don’t understand something about faith. Faith is a spiritual concept, that’s correct. But it produces physical manifestations. It’s a spirit law, but it produces physical manifestation. And I love this because the evidence of it is not seen. And you proved it, you couldn’t see me. And we got back by email and you said he’s coming.
So if we look at Hebrews 11:1, Paul or the writer of Hebrews says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” I like to say this, faith is evidence of our hope in God.
Yes. I like that. Yeah.
Or substance of our hope in God. It’s evidence of God that we do not see. And we can tell that all these people in Hebrews 11 are people of faith by number one, what they did. And number two, what they said. So by it, the elders obtained a good report. Abel made an offering. Noah built an arc. Abraham looked for a city whose builder and maker was gone. He offered up, Isaac, all these different people, they were people of faith. First of all by what they did. You could tell they were people of faith. And the way that you could tell they were people of faith because their lives had a substance of their hope in a God that you could not see. Not only could you tell that they were people of faith by what they did, you could tell they were people of faith by what they said. Isaac blessed Jacob, Jacob blessed so on and so forth.
Laban said, the anointing increased, because you’ve come here and worked for me I have increased. You see what you got to understand, I’ve heard some people say, well, grace is not in the Old Testament, it’s all in the new. Well, let me tell you something, if Abraham wouldn’t have had any grace, we’d have been in trouble.
Listen.
See what I’m saying? It’s there.
Galatians 3 verse, I believe it’s verse eight. But Paul actually writes in Galatians and he says, before that God preached the gospel to Abram, when he said, in you shall all nations of the earth be blessed. That’s in Genesis 12. That’s about 2000 years BC. But you can see grace in the garden because immediately after Adam sinned and Eve sinned. God came walking in the cool of the day, and he made coats of skins. There was grace.
That’s it.
He covered their exposure. He covered their sin. That was the grace of God. He made a promise, the seed of the woman. Jesus is the embodiment of grace.
Well, when we are called the seed of Abraham, you see ladies and gentlemen, I was in the loins of Abraham. Lawson you were in the loins of Abraham. Talking about tithing, for example, people say, watch this it says this in the scriptures that Levi.
Paid tithes in Abraham.
Was in Abraham’s loins. And Levi wasn’t born till thousands of years later. Well then I realized when I read that I said, well Lord, I’m the seed of Abraham, I was in there too. Now watch this, when God breath into Adam, he breathed into his nostrils. He didn’t breathe in his mouth, that’s CPR. Trying to get him to breathe. That Bible said, not just a spirit, living souls. You were in that breath. I was in that breath. God already had set up this program before me and you ever thought of us. Because what I love about God, he finishes, then he begins.
Praise God.
And I love that. People say, Jesus died 2000 years ago. No we didn’t. That was his physical death on the cross. The Bible said he was a lamb led to the slaughter before the foundations of the earth. See, so tell me God’s got this thing set up, and all you got to do is walk in it. And it’s a very simple process to me. People say you don’t have trouble. Well, sure I got trouble, but I don’t magnify it. What I do is magnify my answer. Let me give you a prime example of that. I believe in healing. You know why? Feels good. Sure beats being sick. I mean it hurts. Sick hurts man. So people say, well, I’m not going to say I’m healed when I am sick. Look at me. You know what I tell them? I’m not dealing with your I’m sick. I’m dealing with your word heal. If I can get you to look at your word heal like you looking at your I’m sick, I’d get rid of your I’m sick with your word heal. You know what they say? Well, I don’t care what you say, I am not saying I’m healed when I am sick. I’m not dealing with your I’m sick. I’m not dealing with your problem. I’m dealing with your answer. If I can get you to look at your word heal, like you looking at your I’m sick, I’ll get rid of your I’m sick with your word heal. Now that is full of faith talking right there. And I like what the Bible said, is there any sick among you? Which means there shouldn’t be. If there is.
Let them call.
Call the elders of church. Watch this. Pray the prayer of faith. Do you know when God saved me the church didn’t want to give me grace because see, they could see my past and remember it, but God couldn’t. I mean, everything I ever did, I like this word, he expunged my record.
Talking about forgiveness and remission of sin. There is no more remembrance as if it were never committed.
That’s amazing to me.
Well here’s something really. I like to teach in Romans, but in the book of Romans, he makes this statement and he’s talking about David. And David’s prophesying of the grace that’s to come in Christ. He’s talking about how we receive righteousness or right standing with God. But he makes this statement, he uses Abraham as an example of faith because he really needed it. And he uses David as an example of grace, because David really needed grace. But he says, David describes the blessedness of the man in Romans 4:6, “To whom God imputes righteousness without work.” So that’s the gospel.
Yes, indeed.
When you believed on Jesus. Didn’t matter what we did before. He imputed. God imputed. He placed on our account the righteousness of Jesus, apart from our works, saying blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven whose sins are covered. So he covered it, he paid for it.
Took everything.
But then he not only said that, so he imputed to us the righteousness of Jesus. But this is a wild scripture in verse eight, he says, “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.” And that’s how God sees us in Christ.
That’s a blessing.
And we’re going to come back right after this break, and we’re going to talk a little bit about this.
Yeah, let’s do that. That’s a blessing.
And so we’re going to take a short break. We’ll be right back after this and we’re going to talk about this thing. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Stay tuned. We’ll be right back. Friends I want to share with you about our special product that we’re offering. I’m teaching and with my son Aaron, also with Jesse Duplantis on a couple of different things. Number one, Insights to Faith. Jesse Duplantis made a statement years ago in my church as he was ministering and I just haven’t been able to let go of it. He said, most of the time, in the realm of faith, I made a decision and God backed it. We’re going to talk about that. We’re also talking about this. My son, Aaron, one of his newest series, The Divine Imagination, tremendous, tremendous revelation that I believe will help you move into the plans and the purposes of God. And also my series, The Power of a Positive Imagination, one of my most requested series. You want to get this product. If you can’t call in and get it physically, you can watch it online for free. Or you can pay a small fee and download this information on our website at charischristiancenter.com. Praise the Lord. We’ve been talking about this thing called faith. And I love Jesse, he make this statement about faith. And this thing has stuck in my mind probably more than anything you’ve ever said. And just most of the time in the realm of faith, I made a decision and God backed it. But just before we went on the break, we were talking about, really in Romans 4, and he’s talking about how we receive right standing with God’s salvation. And he says, we receive it by grace through faith. You talked about that earlier in the program. And he uses these two examples. He uses Abraham as an example of faith. And David is an example of grace because David really needed grace. And Abraham really needed faith. And he makes this statement about David talking about grace. Blessed is the man the Lord imputes righteousness without works. So that’s talking about what we received in Jesus. But then he makes this other statement, “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.” Now Jesse, when I was a little boy growing up in Sunday school, my Sunday school teacher, she said, God’s in heaven with his big video camera. And and when you get there, he’s going to play it back to you in slow motion. I was a very honorary child. You could probably guess that.
He said that, I didn’t say that.
But they’re trying to scare me into serving God. Trying to scare the hell out of me.
I know exactly what you’re saying.
But my Sunday school teacher lied because that’s not the gospel. Because the gospel is the lord’s imputing, the righteousness of Jesus to you. And then he’s not imputing sin to you, and the way you receive it, that’s the grace of God. But you have to believe that.
Well, that statement in Romans actually is evidence of 2 Corinthians 5:17. “Therefore, if anybody be in Christ, he’s a new creature.” Now watch this. When I got born again, I was a rock entertainer. I was a good sinner. I was a chief of sinners. Kathy says that when I got saved, that the father had to give Jesus a blood transfusion ’cause he’s running out of blood to wash my sin away ’cause I was a sinner. But watch that. Now, in those days, before I was born again, I was a heavy drinker. Drank a fifth whiskey during the day, which means I got up in the morning and eat eggs, and eat some eggs and I drink a scotch or bourbon. And I knock out that fifth, a whole bottle by 2:30. And then I’m starting to drink for the night. Now watch this, this pastor I loved him, but he didn’t understand grace. He didn’t understand the word impute, righteousness. Oh, watch this impute sin. So you know what he told me? Good guy, don’t misunderstanding me. He said that brother Jesse, and he loved me. You better not get around people that drink a booze. ‘Cause man, you know he used to drink so much, and it’s liable to getcha. And you know what I said, I was a baby Christian. And I said, his name was Sidney Rayford, he’s in heaven, great man of God. I said, do you believe I’m saved? And he looked at me like I lost my mind. He said, well, I know you are. I said, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, therefore, like my brother Hagin used to say, anytime there’s a therefore, find out what it’s there for. “Therefore, if anybody be in Christ,” watch this, “he’s a new creature.” I said, brother Rayford, do you believe I’m a new creature? I’m a new creation. He said, well, yes I do. I said, no, you don’t because what you said about me, old things have passed away. Behold, I like that word. That word behold means, look, all things have become new. See, he couldn’t understand that I was a new creature, new creation because I was saved by grace through faith. And God had imputed to me righteousness. And he didn’t impute sin to me.
That’s the righteousness of Jesus.
You got it. And he went, and tears got in his eyes, and he said, I apologize. I said, and I’m a baby Christian. He knew more about the word of God. I knew enough just to be dangerous. But I had enough sense to know that, that I said, I’m not moved by what I feel. I’m moved by what I believe. You see, and that’s why I believe in grace and faith, especially faith. Because that’s the only thing I had that I could connect to God. That’s all I knew. You know when I got born again, I want you all listen to this, this will blow you away. I didn’t know how to pray. And my mother and father got born again, got filled with the Holy Ghost. But by that time I didn’t want to have anything to do with that. We were christian and confirmed Catholic. And I like Catholic people. I like Catholic church, but they never taught me. They taught me the Hail Mary prayer. And now Our Father prayer. We didn’t talk to God. We talked to the priest. We didn’t confess to God. We confessed to the priest. We didn’t read the Bible because they said only the priest could interpret the Bible. So we didn’t Kathy had never read the Bible until after she was saved. Now watch this. So when I got born again, I didn’t know the salvation prayer. I watched Billy Graham on television. Kathy asked me to do it and I did. God saved in a bathroom in Boston, Massachusetts. Just walked out the hotel, went into that bathroom. And, buddy I couldn’t close that door fast enough. God got in there. The grace of God went inside that bathroom. I didn’t know how to believe with my heart, confess with my mouth. I didn’t even know where that was, that Jesus rose from the dead. You confess, believe, you receive, you get to. You know what was my salvation prayer? I’m going to look at my camera here. I said this, I didn’t know what was going on. I said, whatever Billy said. Boom, I got born again. ‘Cause I believed Billy Graham what he said. I got born again. Now watch this. I mean a chief of sinners. Now you got to understand what it looked like. Long, dark chocolate, brown hair. I’m a rocker. Girls screaming. And that was your grandma doing that, way back when. And I went down to that club. This was a beautiful place, man. And listen, through the eyes of grace, and through the eyes of faith for the first time ever Lawson, I saw sin. And I looked at this place and they were paying me thousands and thousands of dollars. I called it an up hosted sewer. It’s exactly what I, because the night before I saw it as wow. But when I went in there born again. I saw what God saw.
You had a new spirit.
Yes. A new creation.
And you began to see from a spiritual perspective from this perspective of who you were, who you are in Christ. And if we begin to look at that, it changes our whole perspective.
All day. And when I read the book of Romans, I thought, my God, he imputed right. He gave me what he gave Abraham. Wait a minute. I don’t never need to be concerned about what I sinned. None. Because he didn’t impute sin to me. And it dawned on me, and that’s when that word came in my mind where God spoke it to me. I have expunged. I like that word. Your record, which means it never existed.
That’s exactly what forgiveness and remission of sin. Hebrews talks about without the shedding of blood, there’s no remission of sin. And that’s exactly what those words mean. That they’re remitted as if never even committed. Like there’s no remembrance whatsoever.
To tell you the truth. I didn’t come out. That old man died. Don’t exist.
Absolutely, brand new creation in Christ. And when you understand that you’re a new creation, it changes the way that you live. I love this word in Ephesians 5:8, we’re running and out of time, but it says, “You walked in darkness when you lived there, but now you don’t live there anymore.” He says, you were the children of darkness, but now you are the children of light, walk as children of the light.
I don’t mean to interrupt you. I got so much light in me, I don’t cast shadows. Come on Jesus. I don’t casts no shadow. That’s darkness. The Bible says, “God is light in whom there’s no darkness, no shadow of turning.” When you understand that. See that’s what my first pastor didn’t understand. I know we we’re getting close because he just knew I was going to fall, and I kept telling him as a babe, but I’m a new creation.
Well you identified with that. And it’s so important that we identify with Jesus, and that we identify with the work that he’s done, that we identify with who he says that we are.
Why does the time speed up when we talk so much about Jesus? Man, we really getting into this. Can I come back for another show?
Yeah. We’ll come back and we’ll be sharing tomorrow on the same subject, talking about, faith and how that works. And really what we’re going to talk a little bit is about the faith of God in you.
Oh that sounds good.
And so when you’re born again, you have the spirit of Christ in you and you have the exact same spirit of faith.
That’s an amazing statement you just said there.
Jesus on the inside of you.
The church don’t understand what you just said. That that same spirit. My God.
Faith. So we’re going to talk about that tomorrow. But if you need prayer, if you’d like to get our offer, make sure that you give us a call today if you’d like to partner with us. I know this ministry has an anointing of increase just like brother Jesse.
Yes, it does.
