Veterans Day Prayer Guide: Honoring Colorado Springs Military Families

Faith is more than belief—it’s a way of life. Join us this weekend and see how God’s love moves through our church family.

Pastor Lawson Perdue

Colorado Springs is blessed with a strong military presence, so let’s lift up our Colorado Springs military families this Veterans Day by praying for them. Each of us appreciates the rewards of freedom, but we often don’t stop to recognize that each person in the military who sacrifices for our country has a family that also sacrifices. Whether you know someone currently serving or not, several local military bases maintain, defend, and protect our city and country.

We know that God hears our prayers and answers. When we pray God’s Word, we know we are praying His will. Let’s lift up our Colorado Springs military families by praying these scriptures over them.

Prayers for Courage

Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for our military who are willing to go into dangerous situations. May they recognize they have supernatural courage because You are with them. Help their families at home to be courageous, knowing that You are with their family members.

Prayers for Protection

Psalm 91:11 For He shall give His angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways.

Dear God, we thank You for sending angels to keep charge over and guard our military. We ask that Your protection will be evident, and these men and women will recognize that You have protected them and have a good plan for their lives.

Prayer for Knowing God Is with Them

Deuteronomy 20:4 For the Lord your God is He that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Lord God, we thank You for going with our military and fighting against our enemies. We pray that each soldier and commander will seek You and have a personal relationship with You.  We pray for comfort over the families as they rest in knowing that You are with their family members.

Prayer for Strength

Psalm 18:39 For You clothed me with strength for the battle; You subdued under me those who rose up against me.

Dear God, we thank You for being the source of strength each military member needs for each battle. Let them recognize that You sustain them when their strength is weak. We also thank You for giving strength to the families at home in Colorado Springs when they need encouragement.

Prayer for Preparation

Psalm 144:1 Blessed be the Lord my strength, who prepares my hands for war, and my fingers to fight.

Heavenly Father, we know that preparation is vital for each mission our military undertakes. We ask that commanders authorize and equip each person with the training and preparation needed for success.

Prayer for Dedication to Duty

2 Timothy 2:3–4 Endure hard times as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No soldier on active duty entangles himself with civilian affairs, that he may please the enlisting officer.

Dear God, we lift up the soldiers who are far from their families, that they will trust You to be at work in the lives of their families. We know they love and are concerned about the situations at home. We ask that You bring them peace, and their families would turn to You for help.

Prayer for Self-Sacrifice

John 15:13 Greater love has no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Lord God, we thank You for Jesus’ willingness to lay down His life for us so that we could have forgiveness for our sins. We pray that our military and their families will receive that gift of Christ’s sacrifice. We ask that they be reminded of the noble calling of their service and honored for their willingness to defend freedom.

If you are part of the local military, we would love to pray for you in person, or you can call our prayer line (719-418-4000). We offer programs for everyone: Men’s Ministry Breakfast is held on the second Saturday of each month; Women’s Flourish Luncheon is held twice monthly; Charis Youth is held each Wednesday night; and Charis Children meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. We welcome you to the Charis Christian Center family.

We can’t wait to meet you! Plan your visit today and let us welcome you into a church family where faith feels like home.
