Paul sent Titus as a troubleshooter to set things in order and appoint elders. Leaders are to be self-controlled stewards who hold fast the faithful Word and teach sound doctrine that can both encourage and correct. Strong leadership is needed because many talk one way and live another.

The teaching moves to practical life. Older men and women are called to model sober, holy, patient lives. Older women teach younger women to love their husbands and children, walk in purity, and order their homes so the Word of God is not dishonored. Young men are to develop patterns of good works, integrity, and speech that cannot be condemned. Employees and employers both receive clear instruction on honesty, respect, and treating others as unto the Lord.

At the center of the series is a powerful revelation of grace. Jesus is the embodiment of grace. Grace does not give license to sin. It teaches us to deny ungodliness and live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world while we look for the blessed hope of Christ’s appearing. We are not saved by works of righteousness we have done, but according to His mercy through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. Justified by grace, we become heirs and God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works.

Pastor Lawson closes with clear application: do not be a rebel against authority, speak evil of no one, show meekness (strength under control), avoid foolish questions and legalism, stay teachable, and remain connected to good people. The simple way to live the gospel is to let Jesus live His life big in you. The gospel works when we allow it to work in us.
