Healing Covenant
God doesn’t change– He stays the same! All throughout the Bible, we see that it is clearly God’s will to heal. When the Israelites left Egypt, God told them that He is the LORD who heals them. There are so many promises in the Bible for healing. All of these promises still remain true and are part of God’s covenant with believers through the finished work of Jesus. If you are a follower of Jesus- you can see that He is a healer. He was either healing someone, going to heal someone, or coming from healing someone. As you listen to these teachings, we know that faith will be stirred in your heart and that your faith will make you well in Jesus’ name!
Healing Covenant Transcript
Friends, it’s great to have you with us. I’m so glad that you’re here. We’re gonna be talking about the Healing Covenant, and we’re gonna be sharing all this week about healing is the will of God and how you can know with without a shadow of a doubt, that healing is the will of God from the scriptures. So, open your heart and receive the good Word of God and tell your friends about the broadcast. I believe we’re gonna see lots of people heal. Friends, it’s so good to have you with us today. I am so glad to have Aaron, and we’re talking today about the Healing Covenant. And I know you’re gonna get great inspiration from these teachings, and I actually believe as you receive the word of God, you’ll begin to see what God promised you come to pass, especially in this area of divine healing. You know, years ago in a lot of full gospel churches, people thought that divine healing was provided for in the atonement. However, a lot of those churches today really don’t hold to that doctrine, even though it’s part of their foundational doctrines. But it’s very much ingrained in the scriptures. And today we’re specifically gonna be talking about how we can know that healing is the will of God.
And it’s really important to have good teaching on healing. You know, if you wanna see the fruit of something in your own life, in the lives of your church members, you have to teach it. You know, if it’s not taught, it’s not gonna be received. People have to hear the promises, understand that, you know, they have to believe it. But if it’s not ever taught, if it’s never spoken about, if it’s kind of a taboo thing, which is really what healing has become, a lot of times, a lot of people won’t even touch the subject.
Right.
But it’s really important that it’s taught. Otherwise, how are people gonna know that it’s for them? And if you read the Bible, if you read about the, you know, the life of Jesus, you can see that healing is all throughout scriptures. Healing is prevalent in the Old Testament, the New Testament, especially in the life of Jesus.
It’s, you know, Dr. Lester Sumrall talked about Jesus, and he said that Jesus was either coming from healing someone, going to heal someone, or in the process of healing someone. And again, it says 14 places in the New Testament, we’ll talk about this probably later in the week, but it says 14 places in the New Testament that they brought unto Him all who were sick of all kinds of different diseases and He healed them all. He healed them, every one, 14 times in the New Testament says Jesus healed them all. And we can know the will of God from the life of Jesus. And if we don’t really teach people what the will of God is from the scriptures, it’s gonna be hard for them to have faith. You know, the scripture says, without faith, for instance, in Hebrews chapter 11, it’s impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. And if we’re gonna receive healing and have faith in the area of divine healing, we’ve gotta know what the Bible says. Romans 10:17 says, “Now then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the mouth of God. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” So when we declare who God said that He is, it causes faith to come in people’s lives in the realm of divine healing.
You know, I grew up here going to, you know, church with my dad and hearing great ministers that really focused on healing. But when I went out to college and got to know other believers outside of my circle, I realized the vast majority of Christians don’t really believe that it’s God’s will to heal. And if they’re dealing with an illness or an issue, a physical issue, oftentimes a lot of believers just feel that it’s God’s will, that God controls everything and that everything happens for a reason.
Yeah.
You know, a lot of Christians say that everything happens for a reason, but that’s really not true. That’s not-
It’s not scriptural.
That’s not scriptural, and it’s actually, I actually think it’s an assault on God’s character. God’s character is to heal. His character isn’t to put sickness on people.
Yeah. One of my leaders here in the ministry was recently telling me that there’s a leading Jewish teacher that’s actually teaching now, that if you teach that, for instance, God made people sick or God killed people, or God, you know, made people poor, that you’re actually accusing God of wrong, and you’re actually taking the name of the Lord in vain. And really that’ll be very consistent with what I understand to be the truth from the scripture. It’s amazing, Aaron, how many people believe what they wanna believe, no matter what the Bible says. But if you go to the Bible, the word of God is very clear. And we’ve had lots of people healed in our ministry. I’ve been full-time pastor for 36 years this year. And you know what, we have seen people healed since we began our ministry. Signs and wonders and miracles of, you know, in 1990 we had a woman healed of cancer, and she had been to Mayo Clinic. They told her that she had less than six months to live. She was going to the Methodist Church in Kit Carson, Colorado, and she came to our church, and we laid hands on her and prayed for her, and God healed her. You know, the Bible says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He’s the same. And it’s amazing how many people, again, believe what they wanna believe, no matter what the scripture says. But if we, you know, will teach what the Bible says. And she wasn’t the first person I saw healed. I saw people healed when I was preaching, when I was 16, 17, 18 years old. Amazing miracles, really. And you know what? We’ve seen them, and we’ve actually seen them increase over the years. And we’re gonna have a testimony this week, a testimony in next week’s program that are literally amazing to me of things that even unbelieving doctors called miracles. And you know what? That’s, when you teach the word of God, I believe you can see the fruit of the word of God. And so we’re gonna be sharing all of this week about how healing is the will of God. And in Mark chapter 1, Aaron, if you’re there in Mark 1:40 to verse 45, read it. And this is when a leper comes to Jesus and he says, “Lord, you can heal me, if you will.” Faith begins where the will of God is known.
Yeah, so here in Mark 1:40, it says, “Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, ‘If you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Then Jesus moved with compassion, stretched out His hand, and touched him and said to him, ‘I am willing, be cleansed.’ As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. And he strictly warned him and sent him away at once and said to him, see that you say nothing to anyone, but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded as a testimony to them. However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the matter so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places, and they came to Him from every direction.”
Praise God. So, you know, this leper came to Jesus and said, “I know that you can, if you will.” It’s amazing that a lot of people in the church are the same way today. They say, “I know that God can, I just don’t know that He will.” I have a question for you. Is it more wrong to question God’s character in the realm of His love or to question God’s character in the realm of His power? Because a lot of people believe that God has the power, but they really don’t know how much He loves them. See, you’re my son and I love you, and because I love you, I would never put sickness on you or your brothers. Never ever. In fact, I wouldn’t put sickness on anybody. And I believe that God loves you much more than I love you. God loves humanity much more than I love ’em. And if you really understand the cross, God put sickness on Jesus. Jesus was cursed in our place. And it says in Isaiah 53, “He was smitten, stricken of God, and afflicted.” And because Jesus took our sickness, we don’t have to take it. Praise God.
Yeah, I think one reason why a lot of people just attribute everything to God is they don’t realize that there is an enemy. There is a devil.
Right.
You know, and Jesus actually said, “For this reason, I came here to destroy the works of the devil.”
Yes.
You know, and if we’re Christians, if we’re believers, we should have a similar purpose that Jesus had.
Amen.
Yeah, so Jesus, His purpose, He wants us to have similar purpose and even similar authority. He gave us authority in His name. And He gave his followers authority to lay hands on the sick.
Amen.
And to see them recover, and that’s part of the great commission. That’s part of what Christians are to do today, is to lay hands on the sick and see them recover.
Amen.
And just last night, my wife and I were at a really good friend’s house, and their son deals with a lot of eczema. So bad, it just, at one point, his entire body was just covered in just sores and redness. And like, they’re thinking about moving to a different location where the, you know, just the environment where it’s more humid, and they’re thinking about just completely changing their life because their son is-
Right.
You know, so it’s an affliction.
Right.
But that’s not from God. And they asked us to pray for him. They believe in the power of God. They believe in miracles. We’ve prayed over some of their kids before and seen awesome things happen. So they wanted us, before we left, you know, we’re just having dinner at their house. They want us to lay hands and pray over their son and we did.
Amen.
And we believe he’s gonna recover and get better. But they can tell this isn’t from God.
Right.
You know, it’s an affliction, and it’s not from God. It’s just, we live in an imperfect world, but also there’s an enemy,
There’s a devil. And you know, this is foundational. And a lot of people, I was raised in a church, Aaron, that taught maybe God will heal you, maybe He won’t. You don’t ever know about God. And sometimes God uses sickness to teach people. And that is plainly against the teaching of the scripture. And a lot of people just focus on the Old Testament. And the devil’s only mentioned about a dozen times in the Old Testament, 10 of them in the Book of Job, one in the book of Isaiah, and one in the book of Ezekiel. And people didn’t really have authority over the devil like we have authority over the devil. But man, when you look in the life of Jesus, the first thing when He’s baptized by John in the River Jordan, returns, you know, He goes into the wilderness, He is tempted by the devil, and He overcomes the devil every time through the word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. And then He returns in the power of the Spirit. And He begins to preach that the spirit of the Lord is on Him, because He’s been anointed to preach the gospel, but also to heal. And there is an anointing to preach the gospel, to preach the good news, but there’s also anointing to heal. But if we want to see people heal, we gotta begin to teach who Jesus is, who God is. And I believe that there’s a reason, we may get into it, why that was not really talked about in the Old Testament. Because everybody in the Old Testament accounted everything to God. But in the New Testament, man, Jesus plainly says, you know, “This is the work of the devil.” He says, “It’s the thief that comes to steal, to kill and destroy, but I’ve come to give you life, and that life more abundantly.” Well, sickness, disease and infirmity has to do with stealing, killing, and destruction. And healing has to do with life and life abundantly. It’s really that simple. And I really believe the gospel is simple. And Paul said he was afraid that people had corrupted the simplicity of the gospel that was in Christ. And if you really know who God is, you know that He’s good.
God is so good. It’s almost hard to comprehend how good He is. You can actually grow in your understanding, in your revelation of how good God is.
Amen.
But sickness is not from God. Sickness is not a good thing. It does not glorify God.
Amen. So we’re gonna be back right after this break. So stay tuned. We appreciate you. Thanks so much. And we’re gonna have more good news when we come back. Blessings. Friends, it’s great to have you with us today receiving the word of God, but we have so much more to share. And in these teachings, you can receive them either in downloadable audio or downloadable video off our website at charishristiancenter.com. They’re absolutely free of charge, and we have them and many others. So go to our website and receive God’s work. I’ll tell you how to get your prayers answered. Jesus actually said this, “If you abide in me and my word abides in you, you will ask what you will and it shall be done unto you.” You’ve taken up residence in Him. Let His word abide on you, praise God, and just call on the name of Jesus. Friends, I’m so glad that you stayed with us, and we’re right here talking about that healing is the will of God. And we can know the will of God today, number one, because of the nature of God. Now, we looked at Mark chapter 1 and the leper who came to Jesus and said, “Lord, I know that you can heal me, if you will.” And Jesus said, “I will. Be thou cleansed.” And then He touched him and the man was immediately made whole. Jesus sent him to the priest because the Old Testament said, if you were healed of leprosy, you were to go to the priest and then the priest could declare you clean and you could reenter into society. And so Jesus, we can know the will of God through the life of Jesus, but one of the ways we can know the will of God, and I believe the first one that’s really prevalent in the scripture is you can know the will of God through the nature of God. And you can see the nature of God through the life of Jesus. But you can also see it through who God said He is. And so in Exodus chapter 15, there are actually seven redemptive names of God throughout the Old Testament. The first one is found in Genesis chapter 22. And that is, “I am Jehovah-Jireh. I am the Lord your provider.” And Abraham is offering Isaac. Isaac is a type of Christ. And in that he’s actually saying everything, right? Because it’s a type of the cross is found in who the Lord is. He is the Lord our provider. So He provides forgiveness for our sin and healing for our body, and peace for our mind, all these different things. But the second one is found in Exodus 15:26, and it’s right after the children of Israel came out of Egypt. And Aaron, I want you, and it’s part of our covenant with God. And so one reason that we can be healed is because healing is a covenant right that we have. In fact, I believe that we have just as much right to be healed in our body as we do to be forgiven for our sin. Because Jesus paid for our forgiveness and our healing at the same time on the cross. And we’ll teach about that later in the week. But Aaron, if you wanna jump here into Exodus 15 and read these scriptures, it’ll be great.
I love that you said that healing is part of the covenant, you know, and that word covenant, it’s a really important word, and we see it through scripture. It’s not used too much in the world we live in today, but God is a God of covenant. You know, He makes covenants with His people. You know, he made a covenant with Abraham. He made a covenant with Noah. He makes covenant, and covenant it’s not just a promise, but it’s a promise that’s unchanging. And it’s also based on who you are. Like, for God to break His covenant, He’d have to cease to be who He is. His nature would have to change. And God doesn’t change. Jesus doesn’t change. Jesus is Lord, and He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Amen.
So God’s nature doesn’t change. Jesus’ heart, His nature doesn’t change. He’s still moved with compassion for people who are dealing with illnesses. We talked about the leper who came and said, “If you’re willing, you know, make me clean.” And Jesus said He was moved with compassion. So Jesus doesn’t put sickness on people. He’s actually moved with compassion-
Right.
And wants to heal people.
Aaron, years ago, I had this man when I first started pastoring in Kit Carson, and he was fighting me. He wanted me to pray for him to be healed. And I said, “If you will believe that God will heal you, I will pray.” And he was kind of one of these guys that thought maybe God would, you know, heal you one day and kill you the next. And just, you know, that God put sickness on people. And I just point blank asked him, ’cause he was kind of struggling with it. I said, “Well, you love your daughter.” I said, he had three beautiful daughters. I said, “Would you take a vial of AIDS and shoot it into your daughter’s veins?” Man, he just got furious with me. And he said, “I would never do that.” And I said, “Well, how could you accuse God of doing that?” And people are that belligerent, and that ignorant really. You know, ignorance is not blessed. The Bible says in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” It says in Isaiah chapter 5, I believe it is, in verse 13, that they’re kept in bondage because they have no knowledge. But I got to the heart of the matter, and after I got him down, he said, “I’ll believe that God will heal me.” Then I said, “Okay, I’ll pray for you.” And you know, Andrew Wommack is one of my mentors. And thank God I got baptized in the Holy Spirit, called to preach in his meetings in 1978. And that’s when I really got ahold of the full gospel. And it was so attractive to me because my dad actually had epilepsy and could not work outside of the family farm. And my mom was a school teacher and we struggled with sickness, emotional problems, poverty, all these things. And when I first heard Andrew Wommack preach, it’s like, praise God. You can believe God. There’s a Bible full of promises you can believe, and we started believing. And you know what? We didn’t receive everything, but our lives got a whole lot better. Praise God. And if you’ll start believing the promises of God, your life will get a whole lot better. And so after the children of Israel came out of Egypt, it says, you know, they were singing this song and rejoicing, Miriam, Moses’ sister was singing it. But in verse 22, it says, “Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. And they went three days into the wilderness and they found no water.” So you can go ahead and take it from there.
Yeah, so it says in verse 23, “Now when they came to Mara, they could not drink the waters of Mara for they were bitter. Therefore, the name of it was called Mara. And the people complained against Moses, saying, ‘What shall we drink?’ So the people, they’re just three days into the wilderness here. And they just saw some of the greatest miracles ever performed on the face of the earth. You know, these 10 plagues that, you know, afflicted Egypt and Pharaoh, they saw, you know, the entire Egyptian army get wiped out.
Yeah. Well, you don’t wanna fight God’s people.
And they became bitter. And bitterness is a huge problem. I think the devil today tries to tempt people with bitterness in the church today. And you know, they were bitter, they were complaining against Moses. And Moses said, “He cried out to the Lord and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them and said, ‘If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I’ve brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.'” So that’s in the Hebrew there, “I am the Lord who heals you.” That’s one of these redemptive names of God. It’s Jehovah-Rapha, or Yahweh-Rapha, and really God is joining his name, Yahweh, with healing, with Rapha. And sometimes these redemptive names are called a compound name. So a compound name or a compound word, it’s when you take two words and you glue them together. Like railroad, it’s the word rail and road, and you glue it together and it makes something new. So God is saying, “My name is healing. My name is healing.” And here it said that the Lord actually made this a statute and an ordinance.
Yeah.
So that word for statute, an ordinance, in the Hebrews talking about, it’s something that’s prescribed.
Right.
So God’s name is actually a prescription given to us. His name is healing to us. The very name of God is healing to us. The very name of Jesus brings healing. When you pray in the name of Jesus, that name is so powerful, it literally drives out diseases. It literally drives out the enemy. There’s power in His name, there’s purpose in His name. For this purpose, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.
And sickness is a work of the devil. And we can plainly see that as we study through the scriptures. In fact, Jesus, in Luke 13, verse 16, there’s a woman that He heals on the Sabbath day, and the religious rulers in the synagogue get angry with Jesus. And Jesus basically says, “Hey, you guys take your donkey and you take your cow and you water them on the Sabbath day. And should not this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, come and be healed on the Sabbath day?” Healing is a covenant right of believers, just like any other covenant right. And you’re talking about these names of God which really reveal the character of God. And there are really seven of them in the Old Testament. And the Old Testament is a progressive revelation of who God is. And in Genesis 22 he says, “I’m Jehovah-Jireh. I am the Lord your provider.” Again, that’s Abraham offering up Isaac. It’s a type of Christ. And Christ on the cross provided everything that we might need. So forgiveness is in that, healing is in that, peace is in that, provision is in that, right? All these good promises. The second one is found right here in Exodus 15. “I am Jehovah-Rapha, or I am Yahweh-Rapha.” You say it right. Okay. Aaron studied Hebrew when he is getting his doctorate at Wright’s University. And so when you look at that, the second name of God, the Lord our healer. And then you can look into Exodus 17, He says, “I’m Jehovah-Nissi. I’m the Lord, your banner. I’m the Lord, your protector, your defender.” Then you can look into Leviticus chapter 20:8. He says, “I am the Lord who sanctifies you. I’m Jehovah-M’Kaddesh.” You can look into Judges chapter 6. He says, “I am Jehovah Shalom. I’m your peace and your provision.” You can look then into Jeremiah chapter 23:6, where He says, “My name is Jehovah Tsidkenu. I am the Lord your righteousness.” It’s a prophecy about Jesus. The name wherewith He shall be called is the Lord our righteousness. And then you can also move into Jeremiah 33:16. And it says, “The name where with she shall be called,” which I believe is prophetic about the church. And it’s saying, “Is the Lord our righteousness.” So the righteousness of Jesus is ascribed to us when we believe on Jesus. And finally then in Ezekiel chapter 48, and verse 35, it says, “My name is Jehovah-Shammah. I am the Lord who is there.” So if we study that out, you begin to understand these seven redemptive names of God reveal the character of God. Then God says in Malachi 3:6, “I’m the Lord, I change not.” Now, when we look into the gospels, Jesus represents everything that God is. And we go from that and we look into the epistles and we find out that Christ took up residence in us. So Paul says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” So everything that God has is was in Jesus, and then Christ lives in us. So we have the true nature of God in us. So the number one reason that I believe that healing is the will of God is because healing is part of the nature of God. Praise God.
And I just love this account too in Exodus 15, where we find this name of God that he is Jehovah-Rapha, for the Lord who heals us. You know the Lord showed Moses a tree.
Yeah.
And that tree is a picture of the cross. It’s a picture of Jesus. And when, you know, He casts that tree into the waters, the waters represent the gentile nations of the earth. You know, throughout scripture, whenever you see water, it’s often prophetically representative of the peoples of the earth, and it’s cast into the waters, and they were made sweet, they were healed.
Amen. So actually, you study the Bible. There’s three trees of healing. There’s this tree, right? There’s the cross. And then there’s the tree of life in Revelation 22. It says there’ll be no more course, and the leaves of that tree are for the healing of the nations. If you need prayer today, we want you to give us a call, and we have prayer ministers that are ready to pray for you. We see many people healed when they pray, even over the phone.
