The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Every born-again believer should be baptized in the Holy Spirit! Jesus commanded his disciples to not depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father! Our heavenly Father only has good and perfect gifts to give! The gift of the Holy Spirit is no exception! The church needs the dynamic duo of the Word and the Spirit! We shouldn’t blow up or dry up! We all need to grow up in the power of the Spirit and foundation of the Word of God. If the Acts 2 church needed the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we still need it today!

The Outpouring Of The Holy Spirit Transcript

Praise the Lord, friends, and welcome to the broadcast. We’re gonna be talking about the baptism of the Holy Spirit today and the authority that we have in the name of Jesus. And you do not want to miss this broadcast. Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure in John 14, 15, and 16 and primarily talked about those two things, and inevitably, those two things are usually left out of church lessons. Friends, what a pleasure to have you with us. I’m so glad that you tuned in today. It’s good to have Barbara here. And we’ve been talking all week about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We began by teaching about the initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and then we continued by teaching about the ongoing outpouring of the Holy Spirit. You see, when the Bible talks about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2, God said in verse 17, in the last days, He would pour out of His spirit on all flesh. It doesn’t say it’s gonna stop there.

Amen. In fact, later, in Acts 2, after Peter preached about the Holy Spirit and that Jesus, the one who was crucified and resurrected is the one who gave it, the people asked this question in verse 37. They said, “What must we do?” And Peter said in verse 38, Acts 2:38, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus for the remission of sin, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” And then verse 39 says, “For this promise is to you and to your children, and to as many as are a far off.” That’s as many as the Lord our God shall call.

  That’s exciting.

So this wasn’t just something that was specific to the first generation church. This is something that went on and on. And even we studied later, after we studied Acts 2, the Holy Spirit being poured out, we studied how Samaria received the word of God and they were baptized in the Holy Spirit, in Acts 8, and then in Acts 10, how the Gentiles received the Holy Spirit, and they spoke in tongues just like in Acts 2. And in Acts 19, the elders of John. John’s disciples actually received the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues and prophesied. The Holy Spirit is what gives us power to accomplish the works of Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:12, “The same works that I do and greater works than these shall you do because I go unto my Father.” And that’s a promise that’s for today. And it’s really amazing that in Acts 14, 15, and 16, Jesus was trying to prepare His disciples for His departure, and He taught primarily on two things. He taught, number one, on the authority that we have in His name, and He taught, number two, on the promise of the Holy Spirit. And it seems like, to me, there’s two things that have been left out of the teaching of most churches. One of them is the authority that we have in the name of Jesus. See, a lot of this teaching on the sovereignty of God, they think it’s all up to God, but I’m telling you, the will of God is not automatic. You have to take authority over the works of the devil.

  That’s right.

Jesus actually said, “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you lose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” But he not only talked about the authority that we have in His name. He talks secondly about the promise of the Holy Spirit. And a lot of churches have, like, you and I both grew up in churches who did not teach on the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit. They might have taught about the fruit of the Holy Spirit, but they did not teach on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They did not teach on speaking in tongues other than to say it’s of the devil or it’s not for today. They did not teach on the manifestations or what we understand as the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We experienced something similar as teenagers. We were both on fire for the Lord.

  Amen.

You talked about just consuming the Word of God. That’s how I was. If it was in the Bible, I thought, “If that’s in the Bible, that’s for me.” And I love what it says in John 7:37. Jesus said this: “If anyone thirst, let him come to me and drink.” I’m kind of seeing a pattern here. You have to really thirst and desire the things of the Lord. There’s some people that are, I’m just gonna be honest, just so stupid. Who would turn away a free gift? But you have to really thirst for the things of the Lord. Otherwise, you are gonna miss out. And you shared yesterday’s program. You shared a powerful testimony about your cousin calling regarding needing prayer for her son.

  Yes.

And how she had a vision and a dream to call you and have you drive to Denver to a hospital to pray for her son. He had had a surgery regarding a hernia. It should have been a simple in and out procedure, but there was just this huge complication with a clot, a blood clot, going to his brain and left him in a coma, and the doctors really gave little hope. When you went, he couldn’t move, he wasn’t talking, wasn’t doing anything, but again, I like how

And I don’t know if he was in a coma, I don’t know exactly, but he had not moved.

  Or talked.

He had not talked. I mean, he hadn’t done anything. He hadn’t acknowledged anybody. I mean nothing.

But I like that your cousin, again, had this dreamer vision to call you. And what was interesting, that was her choice whether to follow through with that. And she called you, and it was a Saturday. A lot of times we had had a very busy season where you just had something every day. I thought it was miraculous ’cause we looked at the calendar and I said, “You don’t have anything.” I said, “You just need to get in your car.” You asked me, “What should I do?” I’m like, “You need to get in your car and go.” I thought it was miraculous. You didn’t have anywhere you had to be that day. It’s like, God, this was a divine appointment, and you acted on it. You got in your car and headed right up there. You prayed for him, and, like you said, at first, you didn’t see anything, you didn’t feel anything, but both of you acted on the Word of God.

Yeah, she had a vision. It’s just like the Book of Acts. She had a vision of me coming in and praying for him. And she goes to a church that claims to be spirit filled, but they never speak in tongues. They never teach on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They never teach on that divine healing is provided for in the atonement. They never teach faith. They kind of think we’re a little bit crazy. But she actually called her sister, who is a pastor’s wife and went to the school in the denomination that I grew up in, where I got water baptized in, and ask her sister after she had this vision because she was afraid and because we’re kinda fanatics. Her sister said, “If you feel like God told you to do that, you better obey God.” And so then she called a couple of my other cousins. She had this vision like on Tuesday or Wednesday. So she called a couple my other cousins on a Friday night and got my phone number, then called me Saturday morning about eight o’clock. I said, “Hey, if I don’t call you in the next 10 minutes, I’ll be be there in an hour and a half.” And I came to see you, and you said, “Go!” I was just checking with you. Man, I got in my car and drove to Denver, Anschutz Hospital over on the east side of Denver, and he was in intensive care just laying there. And the doctors had already said he’d been in the hospital a week or 10 days at that time. They’d already said, “Listen, he’s gonna be a vegetable or he’s gonna just die.”

  He is a very, very

“He’s never gonna get better.” They did an operation and took a part of his skull because all the pressure on his brain.

They gave a very negative report.

Oh, yeah, but I went in, took a bottle of oil. The Bible says in James 5:14, “If there’s any sick among you, let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over them the prayer of faith, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith shall save the sick.”

  Amen.

“If they’ve committed sins, they shall be forgiven.”

  Hallelujah.

So I talked to her and gave her some testimonies and said, “Hey, sometimes people receive immediately, sometimes it’s over a period of time, sometimes we don’t see anything, but yet the people get healed.” Dr. Sumrall thought this some. He said, “Sometimes with the gift of faith and the working of miracles, it’ll be immediate, but other times when it’s just healing working in their body, it might take a period of time.” But God does answer prayers, so I said, “We’re gonna believe, no matter what, that your son gets healed.” And I testified to her, shared with her for a while, and then I anointed him with oil and prayed for him in the name of Jesus. We saw no immediate physical change. But I went home. I actually got home about noon, and we sat down and had a meal together. But later that day, he moved his finger. The doctor said, “That’s a miracle.”

  Hallelujah.

And he went from moving his finger to moving his hand, to moving his arm, to moving his body, to walking with a walker, to talking, to talking and walking, and then to rehab, and then went home, and then went to office a few days a week. It’s a miracle, and they all know it’s God. Now you talk about a devout woman, the Bible says “the effectual fervent prayer,” there in James 5, “of a righteous person avails much.”

  That’s good news.

Man, you talk about a heartfelt hot prayer. My cousin Rhonda had a heart like a kinda hot blooded family. But she had a, I don’t know if Rhonda’s hot blooded, but, man, I knew. Boy, she was praying for her son, and she was believing God, and God intervened. Hallelujah.

That’s right. I had this woman that we prayed for earlier this year. She was in the hospital seven, eight months ago, and they gave her less than three weeks to live. Her belly was all blowed up. They said she was all full of cancer, and there’s nothing they could do. They said, “We could do surgery, we could do, whatever, chemo, but it ain’t gonna do nothing for you. It’s too far advanced. You’ll be dead in three weeks.” And I went to the hospital and prayed, but this woman was already believing God. I told her about Joel Osteen, Dodie Osteen’s book. She already had it. She was already speaking the Word.

  Great sign.

I mean, some people, you go there, and their faith is already in gear. And it’s so important for you to be in a good church that teaches the Word of God, that builds you up in the faith, and it’s not like we have to jumpstart you. Praise God. You’re just believing. Man, so I went and prayed for and believed with her. And she wasn’t calling me three, four, five times a week. I mean, I call her once a week or once every two weeks, but she got healed. She started saying, “I’m healed.” She was all gray. Her belly’s all blowed up. Pretty quick, within 30 days, her belly went flat. Pretty soon, her collar came back, and she’s pink, and she’s telling everybody, “I’m healed.” And then her son came to church. He’s like, “I’m so happy.” She’s up in years. Her son, probably his 50s. He’s like, “My mom is healed.”

  That’s awesome.

And then her daughter came, and a few weeks later, this was just past Sunday, her daughter came and said, “Mom is healed!” Praise God. So I was teaching from the Book of Acts, where we’ve been teaching on the power of God, and I had her get up and testify. And you can actually see it in this series. If you get this series, that testimony will be in there. They’re supposed to leave that in there. But we’ve had testimonies for over 40 years. I have seen miracles, praise God. I’ve seen all the nine manifestations of the Holy Spirit work in my ministry, in my life, and I don’t turn ’em on or off. It’s God.

  That’s right.

Man, I take no credit whatsoever. I take no honor. It is the glory and honor and power is all Jesus.

  That’s right.

Praise God. But I thank God. You wouldn’t even know who Lawson Purdue was if I wasn’t baptized in the Holy Spirit. And it’s just like, there’s one chapter of Acts that I haven’t preached on yet, and that’s Acts 29. You say, “Well, Pastor, that’s not in my Bible.” That’s ’cause Acts doesn’t have an end. You know what? We’re supposed to be going in the power of God. We’re supposed to see the power of God manifest in people’s lives. And if you don’t have the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a believer, you’re short changing God, and you’re short changing yourself. There’s gonna be a break. You can call in, in this break.

  That’s right.

And you can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I got trained prayer ministers that are here. Actually, on this broadcast, they won’t be here, so I told you wrong. But you could call in. Our office hours are Monday to Thursday. You can call in on Monday, Thursday, and you can receive that. Praise God, that promise. Or you can come, better yet, come to church on Sunday. We have people baptizing the Holy Spirit nearly every Sunday. Aaron gave a altar call a while back. We probably had a hundred adults and about a hundred more kids that night at church on a Wednesday night, and gave the altar call for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and six people came and were baptized in the Holy Spirit.

  Praise God. That was exciting.

And you know what? We have people that come from all over the nation, from all over the world. Last Sunday there was somebody here from Germany. The week before, we had people from the Philippines and from England. I have people from nations of the world in church nearly every Sunday morning and all kinds of different states. They travel here and receive the power of God. And I want to tell you, you can come, and you can receive the power of God. And I encourage you, if you’re in Colorado Springs on a Sunday, to come. If you’re not where you’re in a part of good church, I encourage you to livestream the services. Our Sunday service, our Wednesday night service are all livestreamed. And we have a lot of testimonies from people livestreaming.

  We do.

You give words of knowledge, people on TV will call in and say they receive. People livestreaming will call in and say, “Hey, I have that exact problem.” You give them a church, a lot of people receive a church. But thank God the Holy Spirit is here, and the Holy Spirit is working today. You don’t have to wait for another day. So many people been waiting so long. You know what? The only time they ever tarried to receive the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts was Acts 2, and they only tarried about 10 days. We got people that are tarrying for years to receive the Holy Spirit. That is completely unscriptural. After Acts 2, nobody tarried to receive the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts. The Holy Spirit’s already been poured out, so you need to believe the promises and just receive it.

  That’s right.

  Amen?

  It’s that simple.

Praise God. So we’re gonna take a really short break. We’re gonna be back. Stay tuned, we’ve got more good things to share. Praise God, and you’ll receive something good from God today, blessings. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today. I want to tell you about a very special offer. Today and this week we are offering “Absolute Victory in Christ,” my book on salvation, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and believing the Word for a donation of any amount. Plus, we’re offering our teaching on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in audio or video download free of charge, blessings.

You know what? When God tells you to do something, you need to do it, and you don’t need to worry about every Tom, Dick, and Harry over here and what they’re gonna say, how they’re gonna try to manipulate you or treat you. You just keep on plugging on, and you keep doing what God told you to do, and he will work them out.

  That’s good.

You have to let God be God, and you have to do what he tells you to do.

Friends, I’m so glad that you stayed tuned. And Barbara, just what do you wanna share? Praise God. Just share.

Well, praise God. We just really wanna encourage all of you watching, if you have not received the gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence and speaking in tongues, today is the day.

  Amen.

We just simply ask and receive. It is a free gift. I love how the Bible tells us when we pray in the Spirit, He reveals things to us, shows us, brings things back to our remembrance. Praise God, gives us boldness to witness. When we pray it, edifies, builds us up. I also love how the Bible says when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and we begin to pray, we are comforted. The Comforter comes, and that’s just so powerful.

Yes, Jesus called the Holy Spirit. And in Acts, I talked about this early in the broadcast, but Acts 14, 15 and 16, when Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, He called the Holy Spirit the Comforter. In the Greek, it’s translated, and I’ll go there and talk about the translation of that, but it’s actually translated as the Helper. It’s in John’s gospel, and John talks a lot about the Holy Spirit. The parakletos is the Greek word in John 14:26. It’s also John 15:26. It’s also in John 16. So the Helper, the Comforter, the Advocate, the Intercessor, the Aide or the Assistant, one that pleads in others’ cause. We’ve been going through a situation for over three years, and I’ve been believing God. It concerns millions of dollars for the church. I’ve been praying at night. I’ve been praying in the Holy Spirit. And I said, “Like, God, you got this. It’s taken care of. This is a working of a miracle. I’m believing you to take care of it. And we’ve already seen about 2/3 of breakthrough, and we’re gonna get all of it. It’s gonna come through.

Praise God, and I like what it says. You just read, again, John 14:26, that “He will teach you all things and bring them to your remembrance,” but I like how it goes on in verse 27. It says, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. Not as a world gives I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” You’re talking about no matter what people are going through, what we’re going through, we can have peace.

  Amen.

And the world cannot take it away.

Amen. Praise God. In John 15:26, it says this: “When the Comforter is come, who I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of me.”

  Mm hmm, that’s awesome.

So when the Comforter comes. Man, thank God for the Comforter.

  That’s right.

Thank God for the Holy Spirit. “When the Comforter has come, who I send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, He will testify of me.” So the Holy Spirit, number one, teaches, brings to our remembrance the scriptures, the things Jesus said. Number two, the Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus. It’s the Holy Spirit that convicts people that Jesus is the Son of God, that Jesus died for their sins, that God raised Him from the dead. It’s the Holy Spirit that convicts people that the devil is a defeated foe. It’s the Holy Spirit that convicts people of God’s good plan for their life and shows us as believers God’s good plan for all. God has an amazing plan for our life.

  That’s good news.

Jesus actually goes on John 16:7 and says, “I tell you the truth. It’s very necessary for you, expedient that I go away because if I don’t go away, the Comforter will not come to you, but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He’s come, He will convict the world of sin, of righteousness, of judgment.” And when he talks about convicting the world of sin, He’s not talking about you’re a bad person and all this sin. He’s talking about the sin of not believing on Jesus because if you don’t do anything about believing on Jesus, God can’t do any other things with all the other sin in your life. So He specifically says of sin, “Because they believe not on me of righteousness, because I go onto my Father.” I believe the Holy Spirit convicts us of the fact that Jesus Christ did no sin. That He is the righteousness of God, but as the righteousness of God, He died on the cross for our sins and took our sins and paid for our sins. And God raised Him from the dead and made him Lord.

  That’s right.

Of righteousness. Jesus said, listen to this again, “Because I go to my Father,” and then he goes on to say, “of judgment,” because not that your judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.” See, Satan is a defeated foe. I had a person just in the last couple of days ask me about some teaching. It was all on spiritual warfare. And that is a scriptural turn in Ephesians 6:12 and 2 Corinthians 10:4 5, but most people focus more on the devil than they do on God. And here’s how I teach it. I teach it that, number one, yes, there is a spiritual battle. There’s no way, I’ve read Ephesians 6 in 20 different translations, and there’s no way you can get around that. But number two, I teach that the devil is a defeated foe, and that’s what this is talking about, that the prince of this world has already been judged. Jesus talked about this. I think it’s Luke 11 and about verse 19. he said, “Behold, I saw Satan fall from heaven as lightning.” Satan is not who he used to be. He doesn’t have the power that he once had. Jesus defeated him in his death barrel and resurrection. We have authority over the devil. So I say, yes, there is a spiritual battle, number one; number two, Satan is a defeated foe; but number three, I teach this, that we have authority over the devil.

  That’s right.

That’s what happened in the Book of Acts. They took authority over the devil and over his works, over sickness, over disease, over demons, and they took authority in the name of Jesus. In fact, the Jews were so scared, the religious leaders, of the name of Jesus, that they beat them, the disciples, and commanded them not to preach or teach in the name of Jesus because they knew that there was power in the name of Jesus. And I want you to know today, there is power in the name of Jesus. And we have power over sickness. We have power over demons. We have power over lack. We have power over sin.

  That’s right.

We have power over lust. We have authority over sin.

  That’s right.

And the works of the devil in the name of Jesus. Praise God, and I don’t know what you’re dealing with, but you can take authority in the name of Jesus as a believer, and you don’t have to put up with the devil and his works anymore.

The same devils didn’t like the name of Jesus, proclaim then, still don’t like the name of Jesus, proclaim now. We’ve talked about this before. There’s a number of years ago when we did advertising on bus benches, and we simply put Jesus is Lord. Carish Christian sinner, really tiny, and one person complained, they didn’t like that, Jesus is Lord, and we were told that we could no longer

  Advertise.

Advertise the name specifically. We were told specifically, “You cannot advertise Jesus. You can put your church name, you can put anything else but you specifically,” we were told by our city that “you cannot put the name of Jesus on anything.” And of course that’s just absurd.

  I’ve been using the

  That’s stupid.

Name of Jesus for three years, and they told me that on a Tuesday. And when this girl that was selling advertisement on the city’s space from her company walked out the door, I said, “I wanna know who said that because I’ve been using the name of Jesus.” Mike Peterson was my assistant. He’s my first employee. Mike was fought in Vietnam, lost his legs and his eyesight, but Mike is a great man of God. He worked for me for 12 years. He had a computer that read to him. And by the time she got out the door, he said, “Here’s the mayor’s number, Pastor.” And I called the mayor, and praise God. We had just talked on Monday about changing our advertisement from Jesus is Lord to something else after the first of that year. Now this was in June. But listen, they made me mad, and I kept it up for, till this last year.

  A period of years.

I kept it up six more years, and praise God. And I called the Mayor, and they didn’t even respond to me. And so Wednesday I heard back, and they said, “Yeah, the city’s standing back by it.” And Thursday they said, “It’s these people at the city,” the city attorney, so on and so forth. I knew it wasn’t this one person that they told me it was because I’d been dealing with the city for years. I knew it wasn’t them. And so it was this city attorney, and because of one complaint, they were gonna cause, and they said, “Using the name of Jesus is hate language.” And man, Friday, I got up, and it’s my day off. I got up and I emailed every city council member, and I called every city council member, and I called the mayor and I emailed the mayor. And then after I did that, I called the Christian radio station together and made it out. I gave some money to feed the hungry and bought about 40 ads. They had a special. They said you give ’em a thousand dollars, we’ll give you 40 ads. I gave ’em a thousand bucks and said, “Put this on,” and they put it on for the next week. I called the Christian community together. And then I wrote a letter that I was gonna give to my church on Sunday, and I was gonna turn it over to the media on Monday, and then by noon, you and I were sitting at Texas Roadhouse eating a lunch, and I got a call from this libertarian paper in town that’s usually pretty liberal. And this woman said, “Hey, I just heard from one of the city council members. Can I take your story? I wanna write it.” And I said, “Well, if you say exactly what I tell you to say, you can.” So she took it and she read it back to me. And she actually called the guy that fought Christians on military bases, and he said, “Usually I’ll fight people like this, but this is plainly an infringement on the First Amendment, freedom of speech and freedom of religion. If this goes to Supreme Court, Pastor Lawson will win.” And I decided since she got it, I’d call ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox News. And I called them and they all came but Fox News. I looked at the cameras, and I smiled, and I told ’em, “Listen, I’ll fight this. I didn’t start this battle, but I’ll finish it, and I’ll win even if I have to go to the Supreme Court.” Listen, man, the city was crying mercy in about two days, and we made a tremendous difference in this city. And you know what? We’re continuing to make a difference in this city, and I believe we’re gonna make a difference all around the world in the name of Jesus.

There is power in the name of Jesus. We wanna encourage you to understand and take your authority.

  Praise God. Blessings.
