Promise, Price, and Power of Redemption Transcript

Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today, and we are sharing today on the power of redemption. We’ve been teaching these last two weeks on the promise, the price, and the power of redemption. You see, the promise of redemption has been made. God, the Father did that. The price of redemption has been paid. Jesus did that when he shed his blood, but now the power of redemption works in our life. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re with us today. We’ve been teaching all of this week. And actually all of last week, we talked about the promise of redemption. In the first three broadcasts of this week, we talked about the price of redemption. And now we’re gonna be talking about the power of redemption. And the fact is, today that the promise of redemption has been made. God has made many promises, and the price of redemption has already been paid. Jesus has already shed his blood. He’s already finished the work. There’s nothing more that he needs to do. He is seated at the right hand of God, waiting till his enemies be made his footstool. But today, you and I, individual believers, have the power of the Holy Spirit working in us, and it’s the blood of Jesus that made that a reality. In fact, if it wasn’t for the blood of Jesus, the Holy Spirit couldn’t live in us, but the Holy Spirit lives in us. And so, these verses we talked about in Ephesians 1:7, about the price of redemption in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sin, according to the riches of his grace. We talked about this in verse 11, in whom we have obtained an inheritance, that’s the promise of redemption being predestinated according to the purpose of Him, who works all things after the council of His will. Verse 12 says that we should be to the praise of the glory who first trusted in Christ. Man, God had an amazing purpose for us. And we walk in that purpose, we bring glory to Him. But then he begins to talk about this power of redemption in verse 13 and 14, and that’s what we’re gonna focus on in today’s broadcast. He says, “In whom you trusted after you heard the word of truth.” When you heard the gospel, when you heard about Jesus, when you heard the word. That He says the gospel of your salvation, in whom that after you believed you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Our spirit as believers has been sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. And when you study that out in the Greek, it means your spirit is perfect. Your spirit is righteous. Your spirit is whole. Your spirit is complete. The Bible says we are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and authority, and it’s because of the work of Jesus. And we’re not falling in and out of God’s kingdom. You know what, we are the children of God. We’ve been bought by the blood of Jesus, and we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. He says in verse 14, which is, “The earnest or the guarantee of our inheritance, until the redemption of the purchased possession,” to the redemption of our body, the Holy Spirit is in us. It’s a guarantee of our inheritance to the praise of His glory. He uses that term, again. The praise of His glory, what that means, the term, the praise of His glory, in Ephesians chapter one, verse six, it says, “To the praise of the glory of his grace.” When God looks at you, He sees you in your full potential in Christ, through the grace of God. He says, “Wherein,” and you come to a fixed position of rest, in the grace of God. He made us accepted in the blood. You are acceptable to God today. But it’s not by your own works, it’s by the blood of Jesus Christ.

I love here, that it says, “We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”

You know, a lot of people are kind of worried that… You know, we’re in a dark world, but the light has been sealed in you.

You know, I was raised in a traditional church where people, it was more focused on sin than it was more focused on Jesus. Then after I was baptized, and the Holy Spirit called to preach, I went to a Pentecostal church. And a lot of the Pentecostals, again, focus a lot on sin. And you know what, you can’t really walk in a lot of victory focusing on the sin. You know, the Bible, we talked about this earlier in the week, that by the law is the knowledge of sin. In the Old Testament, they had a knowledge of sin, but they didn’t walk in victory ’cause they didn’t have the Holy Spirit. The blood of Jesus hadn’t been shed. And if you’re just focused on sin, you’re really living more like an Old Testament believer. But then, you know, I got baptized, and the Holy Spirit, got called to preach, and I began to understand more the grace of God. And as I began to understand that, and what the blood of Jesus had done for me, I began to understand that my spirit is sealed. And the example that I like to use is like, my grandmother used to make these peaches when I was a kid, and she would, can ’em. And they’d put ’em in these Ball jars or Kirk jars, and they’d boil ’em, and they’d get those peaches ready, and they’d put ’em in there and they’d can ’em, and they’d screw that lid and they were sealed. They were like, vacuumed. You could go get those things in five years. And you know what, you could throw ’em in a barrel of drain oil. You could pull ’em out of the drain oil, wash it off with water, wash it off with gasoline, wash it off again with water, open it up. And those peaches would almost taste like the day that she put ’em in there. They were sealed. Your spirit is sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption, until the day that Jesus comes to get us. Or we go, our spirit, it’s… Our spirit is… If your spirit wasn’t perfect, righteous, and complete, you could not stand in the presence of God. God absolutely can’t let any sin in His presence. He is perfectly holy, but our spirit’s been made perfect, complete. The Bible says that Jesus died to present us perfect before the Father. And so thank God we’re perfect. I like this. You used the term, Aaron, when we were teaching this week, about how Jesus made us holy. And it actually says that, I think it’s Colossians chapter one, verse 22, that’s talking about our spiritual condition when we’re born again. So our spirit is not weak, is not sick, is not sinful. Our spirit is holy, and our spirit is whole. We’ve been made whole.

Yeah, I’ve heard different teachings too where people say, “Well, you’ve been justified, but you still need to work on being sanctified.” Like, and sanctified means to be, you know, sanctified, to be made holy. You know, and people teach on holy, like you gotta make yourself holy, but you can’t make yourself holy.

Well, here’s what the scripture actually says about sanctification. It says, “Christ of God was made unto us. Wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.” And when you study, that’s 1 Corinthians one, verse 30. He says that, “No flesh should glory in his presence.” So he says, he, that glory, has led him glory in his Lord. Glory in the Lord. When you study those things, wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, those four things, Christ of God was made unto us. And we are wise, righteous, sanctified and redeemed. Every one of those things is immediate in your spirit. Every one of those things. The moment you’re born again, you have the mind of Christ. The moment that you’re born again, you are as holy, as sanctified, as Jesus is. You’re as righteous in your spirit as Jesus. God made him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. That’s second Corinthians five, verse 21. It’s not something we did, it’s something God made us. Jesus didn’t sin, but God made him a sin offering for us. We were holy sinful, but God made us holy righteous, completely, I’m talking about. Praise God. And so wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, redemption. You check me out, 1 Corinthians chapter one, verse 30, those things are immediate in your spirit. This is talking about your true spiritual conditions. You who believe were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Those things, you have the mind of Christ, you’re the righteousness of God in Christ, you’re sanctified by the blood of Jesus and you’re redeemed from every curse. But it’s a process of walking out those things. So I have the mind of Christ. I’ve had the mind of Christ since I was born again, when I was eight years old. I’m 59 currently as we sit here teaching. So, for 51 years, I’ve had the mind of Christ in my spirit. I have not always relied on the mind of Christ. I’ve not always leaned on the mind of Christ that’s in me and my spirit. See, because you can be a spiritual being and yet get caught up in your soul, right, or your flesh. I am the righteousness of God. Have I sinned since I’ve been born again? Of course. Amen? Everybody sins, sometimes we know it, sometimes we don’t. But if you’re born again for very long, after you get saved, you sin. You know, we’re not trying to sin, we don’t wanna sin, but, you know, sin is a transgression of the law. We’ve transgressed the law, didn’t even know it sometimes. I’m wearing a shirt that’s polyester and cotton, that breaks God’s law, it’s not pure, but I’m not trusting what I’m doing to save me, I’m trusting the blood of Jesus. And my spirit is perfectly sanctified. Amen? So he says, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit. The condition is Jesus. And man, if Jesus lives in you, you got everything. Now, you’ve gotta renew your mind to the fact of that so you can walk in it. But he says, seal with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the guarantee of our inheritance till the  You know, it’s like we face some challenges in our body, but Jesus has already paid for the redemption of our body. He’s gonna secure that when he comes again. 1 Corinthians 15 says, every enemy’s been put under his feet except the enemy of physical death. So those four things, wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, you have ’em immediately in your spirit. They stay there. Praise God, they’re not leaving. Unless you reject Jesus, and that’s a big deal, I don’t have time to talk about it. But, um… you walk, you grow in your, uh, knowledge of those things, and what you walk in as far as wisdom. I’m walking in a lot more wisdom than I was when I was 12 to 13, 14, 15, 20 years old, Amen? And sanctification, I’m walking in more sanctification. You know, the Bible says this in 1 Thessalonians chapter four, “This is the will of God, even the sanctification of your body,” that every one of you knows how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor. So even though our spirit’s been sanctified, the power is in our spirit. We’ve gotta know how to possess our body. And so, our spirit is already sanctified, it’s already holy, but our soul is being sanctified and we trust our body’s gonna be sanctified, Amen? We need to walk in that right now, right here. Wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, redemption, immediate and continual, as we renew our mind in the things of God. He says, “This Holy Spirit that we have is the guarantee, the earnest.” You know, Aaron, you preached a while back. I loved it. You were preaching on Hebrews chapter seven, verse 22, and I believe verse 22 says that he is the… Again, this guarantee, he’s the… Hebrews 7:22, “By so much more Jesus was made the surety.” Jesus was made the guarantee, Jesus is the guarantee of a better covenant. That word surety is like earnest. The Holy Spirit is the earnest. It’s like if I went to buy a car and I didn’t have all the money, so I put a thousand dollars down and said, “I’m gonna be here within a week, and I’ll have all the money,” then they hold that car because I gave them a guarantee. This is my guarantee. If I don’t come in that certain time, then it’s, don’t have to worry about it. But the Holy Spirit is the guarantee that Jesus is gonna come. And He says, “Jesus was made a surety, a guarantee of a better testament.” The spirit inside us. “He’s the guarantee of our inheritance.” We have an inheritance in Christ. We’ve talked about this all week. This is the promise. He says, “The guarantee of our inheritance till the redemption of the purchased possession, the redemption of our body.” Amen to the praise of His glory. Until we’re living out a 100% of God’s will. Well, we’re gonna come back right after this break and we’re gonna be talking more about the, praise God, the power of redemption. Thank God, the power of redemption. And that’s a present act of work. The Holy Spirit is still working in our life today. The promise of redemption has been made, the price of redemption has already been paid, but the power of the Holy Spirit is working in us today. So we’ll be back right after this break, blessings. Friends, thanks so much for being with us today. I’ve been teaching on the promise, the price, and the power of redemption. And you can download my other teachings on redemption, “Redemption” and “The Essence of Redemption” from our website store CharisChristianCenter.com. These are available to you free of charge today because of the generosity of our partners. Blessings.

Listen, storms come to everyone. The man that built his house on the rock and the man that built his house on the sand and the storms came and the wise men’s house stood strong and the foolish man’s house fell flat. You know what the difference was? What they did with the work.

Praise the Lord. Friends, I’m glad you stayed with us. We’re right here and we’re talking about the power of redemption. And we begin there in Ephesians one, verse 13 and 14. It says, “We’re sealed with the Holy Spirit of promised.” And then He says this in Ephesians four verse 30, “Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God whereby you are sealed until the day of redemption.” The thing is you say, “Well, pastor, if you’re sealed, then if you can’t lose it.” Well, you can reject it. I don’t believe you can lose it. But you can reject your salvation. Now, that’s a big, long thing. Again, we don’t have time to get into, but here’s how we wanna live, we don’t wanna grieve. I don’t wanna do anything that grieves my spirit, that grieves my… That in any way, hinders my relationship with Jesus. I wanna stay close to Jesus. So we have the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit is the one that leads us into the victory that Jesus already won. And we’re gonna move into Romans chapter eight. And you know, in the first eight chapters of Romans, Paul talks about the Gentile need for righteousness, Jewish need for righteousness, everyone’s need for righteousness, God’s provision for righteousness, in the person of Jesus talks about redemption, talks about the way we receive righteousness, grace and faith. And when we do that, praise God, we’re justified by faith, right, in his blood. And then Romans 6 says, we’re dead to sin. Romans 7 says, we’re dead to the law. We’ve been talking about it, it’s not by rule keeping, but Romans 8 says, now, we have the spirit of God. And the first seven chapters of Romans only talk about the Holy Spirit in any way a couple of times. And then in Romans 8, depending on how you look at it, the person of the Holy Spirit’s mentioned at least 15, I think he’s mentioned 17 times. But the Spirit in us is mentioned over and over again, over 20 times, when you put all those together. So, we have the power of the Holy Spirit that’s working out redemption in our life. He’s presently actively working in our life today. So Aaron, why don’t you jump in here and read Romans 8, verse one and verse two. And we’ll move into these things. Praise God, talking about the spirit of God in us.

Oh, yeah, here in Romans eight, verse one and two, it says, “Therefore, now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who do not walk according to this flesh, but according to the spirit. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

Amen. So we have the same spirit that raised up Jesus dwelling in us. We’re no longer condemned. Praise God. This is good news. He says in verse three, “For what the law could not do and that it was weak through the flesh, God sent his own son in a likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us.” Look at this, “Who are not following, who are not walking after the flesh, but after the spirit.” We need to let the spirit lead us. He goes on and talks about this. “For they that are after the flesh, mind, the things of the flesh, they that are after the spirit, the things of the spirit.” What do you focus on? What’s your attention on? He says, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” You know what, if you’re receiving death in your life, if you’re not walking in life in peace as a believer, it’s because you’re carnally minded. God doesn’t want you to… He wants you to walk in life in peace, “Because the carnal mind is an enemy of God for it’s not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be. So they that are in the flesh…” That is a big statement, Romans 8, verse eight, “Cannot please God.” One aspect of in the flesh is talking about they’ve never been born again. Romans 7, verse five says this, Romans 7, verse five says, “When we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.” That’s talking about before we got saved. We lived wrong before we got saved because you know what? We were in the flesh. We didn’t have the spirit. But he says… Notice what he says in verse nine. Here’s where he really gets into this. “But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the spirit of God dwells in you. Now, if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of His. And if Christ be in you…” So you either have the spirit of Christ in you or you don’t have the spirit of Christ in you. You’re either born of God or you’re not born of God. You’re either on your way to heaven or you’re not on your way to heaven. And you know, God knows that, but listen to what he goes on to say. He says, “If any man have not the spirit of Christ, he’s none of His.” Spiritually speaking, you are either 100% a child of God or 100% a child of the devil. And if you’re a child of God, it’s because you believed on Jesus. And if you’re not, it’s because you didn’t believe on Jesus. And he says, so they… He goes on and says this; “And if Christ be in you,” verse 10, “The body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.” There is a spiritual part of you and it is alive to God. Your spirit is alive to God. Your spirit is righteous in God’s sight. You are just as righteous as Jesus is righteous in your spirit. Man, if you understand who you’re in the spirit, you need to notify your body, praise God? Hallelujah. “But if the spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he’s taken up residence in you.” He says, “The spirit that raised up Jesus shall quicken your mortal body by his spirit in you.” Thank God we got the same spirit that raised up Jesus living on the inside of us. This is my favorite verse in the whole Bible. And you know, I got lots of verses I love, but I had somebody ask me, “What is your favorite verse?” Well, Romans is my favorite book. Romans 8 is my favorite chapter. And Romans 8, verse 11 is my favorite verse of ’em all. The same spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead is living in us, dwelling in us, quicken in our mortal body. And it changes how we live. Praise God.

Yeah, we get to celebrate Easter every day as believers because that resurrection power is on the inside of us. The same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you. He’ll give life. The spirit of Christ is always giving life to dead situations. There might be things you’re going through, hardship, just difficulty, maybe just anxiety. The spirit of Jesus is inside of you. That resurrection power is on the inside of you. And that means that there is hope that you can have faith in Jesus Christ. You are always better off trusting in Jesus, trusting in the promises, trusting in the power of the blood than not.

And there is power. There is resurrection power on the inside of you if you’re a believer right now.

Amen. So he says… He goes on to say this, “Therefore brethren, we’re debtors not to the flesh.” We don’t owe our flesh anything. Some people say, “I’m gonna go flesh out.” You might not wanna do that. But He says, “For if you live after the flesh, you’ll die. But if you’re through the spirit…” You let the spirit rule you, you mortify it. It takes the spirit to put to death the deeds of the body, the flesh, the old life, the old way of living and being. He says, “You’ll live.” “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” We are led, the spirit of God leads us into freedom, leads us into dominion, leads us into authority, leads us into sonship, leads us into the promises of God, the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God is leading us into the good things of God. He says, “For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.” It’s not a bunch of rules and regulations. The kingdom of God is not meat and drink. It’s not rules and regulations, but it’s righteousness and peace and joy and the Holy Ghost. He says, “You have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but the spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba Father.” We’re no longer fearful slaves. Glory to God. We are God’s own sons and daughters. We have been bought by the blood of Jesus. You know? And we have inherited, we are co-heirs, joint heirs with Jesus. And we have the Holy Spirit of promise in us today. And he talks about that right here. He says, “The spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.” You need to know that you know that you know that you’re a child of God. And it’s the spirit of God that leads you into this free. You know what, I get to do what I wanna do, but I’m not living by my flesh, I’m not living outta my soul. I get to live out of my spirit. The spirit of God in me is leading me into the things of God. And He says, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we’re children, if children, then heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ. If so be that we suffer with Him, we may be glorified together.” What suffering is that talking about? Verse 17.

You can suffer just from being in the world, just from persecution, from being around worldly people who just… There’s an antichrist spirit out there.

Right. I think it’s also talking about this. I think it’s talking about identifying with Jesus at the cross.

You know, if we suffer with Him.

  Taking up your cross.

When you identify with Jesus at the cross, he says, “Then you’ll be glorified together.” Paul says this in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, it’s not I, but Christ that lives in me and the life I now live in the flesh. I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.” Praise God. Aaron, pray with the people.
