Imparting Success to the Next Generation Transcript

Praise God. We are having fun at Charis Christian Center. You don’t wanna miss this broadcast. It’s a great broadcast where we’re talking about how we can walk in victory as believers. This is from my wife, Barbara’s teaching, and you don’t wanna miss it. She’s here with me. We’re gonna have a great time today in the Word of God. So stay tuned and be blessed. Friends, it’s so good to have you today. And I’m here with my wife, Barbara. We’re teaching from your brand new book, “Imparting Success to the Next Generation.” I love your book, Barbara. It’s a great book. But one reason I love it, because this isn’t something that you’re just teaching about as a principle, but this is something that’s worked in our lives. It’s working in your life. It’s something I think that you understand in a great way. And we’ve taught a number of things, but we taught about the three main principles, you know, which are, you know, a relationship with God, teach your children the value of a relationship with God, how important that is, and to love the word of God. Teach your children, secondly, to love their family, but, thirdly, teach them a practical trade. And we spent the last three days actually talking about that. But we’re gonna move into the last really lesson in your book that’s talking about how to walk in victory. I believe that victory is the plan for every Born Again believer. And I believe that we all are victorious in Jesus Christ, and we’re gonna be victorious in eternity, but I believe that we can have victory right here today on this earth. So we’re gonna talk about that. And you had this scripture in Deuteronomy 30, and so are you in Deuteronomy?

No, I’m not. But, you know, we talked about this earlier, hon, how, you know, we believe that God wants everyone to be victorious, but He has given us a free will. We’re not puppets. And so as we talk about victory, we’re really talking about decisions or the choices you make. And that’s what you’re gonna bring out. I can give a summary of it here, but in-

  No, I’ll share it.

In Deuteronomy 30:19, it talks about the Lord setting before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Did you wanna read that?

Yeah, and, you know, this scripture is so important. And I think you need to understand that there are two major kind of aspects in Christianity. We have the aspect of people like us that believe life is really about the choices that you make. And then we have another aspect of people believe this is all predetermined by God. and you don’t have really any choice in the matter. Just whatever will be is gonna be. And that’s just not true. You see, I believe that God has a good plan for every person who’s ever been born on the planet. But you have to choose Jesus. You have to choose to follow Him. And there are choices that you make that can alter what God’s purpose and plan is for your life. And I think about the late Billy Graham, what a great leader, what a great man of God, led literally millions of people to know God and to know Jesus Christ. But his magazine was called “Decision.” You know, it’s about a choice. And I remember not very long ago, I was coming back from ministering somewhere, and I actually was in flying on Southwest. So my seating position was B59. So, you know, there’s only three groups, A, B, and C, so that’s after probably 120 people at least had got on the plane ’cause you got all the pre boards, all the A’s, and then you got all the families, and then you got all the B’s. So I prayed to God and I asked God, I said, “God, I wanna sit.” It was the last flight I was flying that day to get home. I wanna fly. I wanna be in the first row. And I was traveling just with a backpack only. And so, you know, I get in the plane, you know, when I get in there and I’m sitting, I’m actually, the first six rows are full except for one seat, the very first seat in the plane, first one to be off. And I’m sitting by this couple. Anyways, I began to visit with them. I began to talk to this woman and her husband. They actually worked in the medical field. She was an ambulance driver. That’s really amazing. My assistant here at the church drove ambulance for 16 years. Her husband still drives the ambulance. So, you know, I could kind of relate, because knowing my assistant that well. And so she was talking, “Well, these people don’t have any choices. This is just generational curse.” Let me tell you that that is a lie, that there is nothing in the New Testament that says anything about a generational curse. That is a sorry excuse for poor living. And people use this excuse. And as I began to talk to her, she said, “Yeah, your decisions do make a difference.”

Did you wanna get on with the Deuteronomy since-

Praise God. We’re gonna jump in the word here, and but that teaching is just so prevalent in the body and it’s not healthy. But God speaks to Moses, and he’s speaking to Israel through Moses and he says in verse 15, “See, I have set before you this day life and good and death and evil.” He says in verse 16, “In that I command you today to love God, walk in His ways, keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess it.” God wants to bless you, but you’ve gotta choose life. You’ve gotta choose good. You’ve gotta choose to follow Jesus. It’s interesting in Romans 10, where we see the plan of salvation and how to get saved right prior to those verses in Romans 10:8-10. He quotes actually Deuteronomy 30, right prior to these verses that we just read. That’s right in the plan of salvation. And he says here in Deuteronomy 30:19, he goes on to say, “I call heaven and earth to record today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life that you and your seed may live.” It’s a choice we make.

Amen. And for just a fun, I always like looking in the Bible for stories that really help bring some of these things out. And there’s an example in the book of Exodus, what it looks like when you are given the responsibility to make a decision and it’s gonna affect a lot of people, an you can make a really good decision, or you can make, a lot of times people make what I call just, they just seem to stay on this self-destructive path. You wanna get off that. It’s just like there’s a good way to go, but they always take the bumpy hard way. And, again, it affects other people. And so this is in Exodus 8:8-14, and it’s talking about the different plagues that Egypt experienced when Moses was there to lead the people to freedom. And really they were dealing with Pharaoh who had a hard heart and a very prideful heart. And I believe when you study this out, a lot of these plagues represented all the foolish, the crazy gods that they were worshiping. It’s like our God, the God, the I Am the Great Almighty God was really making a joke out of their gods. And so this is one of the plagues. This is the plague of frogs. Again, Exodus 8:8-14, I love this story in the Bible. So then Pharaoh called for Moses. Well, what I wanna bring, I should say, what was interesting, honey, is Moses under the direction of the Lord, you know, lifted up the rod and frogs came all over the land. So then Pharaoh had his magicians also call up frogs. So it wasn’t enough that there was one layer of frogs, because Pharaoh, that’s just a very prideful, ridiculous attitude, had his magicians call up frogs. But the difference is his magicians did not have the power to get rid of the frogs. So now there are frogs. You gotta understand, there are frogs everywhere. You couldn’t take one step. You couldn’t sit down. You couldn’t get anything out of the cabinet or cupboard, food. The frogs were everywhere. And I remember, you know, our children would sometimes catch a little frog for a little pet. And you know them things do business in their hands, in your hand. I mean, frogs, they look cute when it’s on a pitcher. But when it’s in your hand or in your bed or on your furniture, it’s bad.

And let’s just talk about the Bible, okay? So in the book of Revelation, he talks about the antichrist. It’s either the antichrist or the false prophet. But it says in the book of Revelation that three unclean spirits like frogs came out of his mouth. I don’t wanna worship any frog. And when Moses calls forth these plagues, he called those frogs out of the Nile River. That’s something that they worshiped. And so he took things that they worship and made a mockery out of it. But can you imagine having frogs in your bed, frogs in your shower, frogs in your bathroom, frogs in your kitchen, frogs in your cabinets, frogs in your sink, frogs, I mean, in your living room, everywhere you go, just frog, frog, frog?

You know, God wants to bring a place of deliverance to all of us.

  Yes.

And a place to freedom and not bondage, but a lot of it has to do with your decision, and this is what we taught our children. And, again, this story, I love it. So we’re gonna look at verse eight here and it says, “Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, ‘Entreat the LORD that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.'” So it’s interesting in verse nine, “And Moses said to Pharaoh, ‘Well, you accept the honor of saying when I shall intercede for you, for your servants, and for your people to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, that they may remain in the river only.'” So the Pharaoh, in verse 10, who’s supposed to be at the time, one of the wisest people in the land. You know, I like how the Bible says, “Today is the day of salvation.” God wants us to be saved from everything, saved spiritually, just saved from everything in our life, experience Him. And the Bible again says, “Today is a day of salvation.” Well, in verse 10, the Pharaoh says, “Tomorrow. Let’s go with tomorrow.” He could have said today. He could’ve said yesterday. I don’t care, but he could’ve said today. And so Moses says, “Let it be according to your word.”

Yeah. Boy, your word has power. Pharaoh’s word had power, and he lived with them frogs another day. You know, God doesn’t want you to live with your addiction another day. He doesn’t wanna live with your sin another day. He doesn’t want you to live with these curses for another day. But you’ve gotta make a choice to believe it.

You know, it goes on and it says, “As the next day came.” You know, like you said, God wants to set us free today. They took all these frogs and made heaps of them and the land stink.

  Yes.

You know. Bad decisions can really make a big stink.

  Yes.

But hallelujah. God is a God of grace and mercy, but call on him today.

Amen. So you’re talking about decisions. So Pharaoh made a decision and said, “Tomorrow.” He waited. A lot of people are tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes. You know, you can see that in the life of Paul and he’s before the king and he said, well, tomorrow, you know, talk to me tomorrow. Joshua 1:8, you have down there. “This Book of the law shall not depart outta your mouth, but you shall meditate therein day and night that you may observe to do according to all that’s written therein, for then you will make your way prosperous and you will have good success.

But note, back that up. I like what you just said when I’m seeing my Bible, “For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.” In other words, you can make decisions that are gonna bring success.

Make a decision to believe the word, to speak the word, to live the word and you’ll make your way prosperous.

  That’s right.

And you will have good success. I love another verse from Joshua. You know, that’s Moses speaking to Joshua. Joshua getting ready to take, or God speaking to Joshua actually. Moses had passed away just prior to that. But getting ready for Joshua to lead the people of God, the people of Israel into the promised land. And then Joshua chapter 24:15, Joshua makes this statement, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” He made a decision. You can make a decision today. For me and for my house, we’re gonna serve Jesus. Praise God, we’re gonna serve the Lord.

We can stop the self-destructive path.

  Amen.

And allow Jesus to work mightily in our lives.

Amen. Amen. You know, the next point you have is, you know, if we’re gonna walk in victory, number one, we gotta make a decision, but number two, and we’ll come back and talk about this right after the break. Number two is we need to live consistently. And we’re gonna talk about how making consistent decisions and different aspects of consistency lead you to victory in your Christian life. So stay tuned and we’ll be back right after this break. Bless you. Hey, everyone. I’ve just finished reading the final script for my wife, Barbara’s book on “Imparting Success to the Next Generation.” It’s a fantastic tried and proven thing that Barbara has proved in our lives on how we can teach our children to succeed. Andrew Wommack wrote the forward. You don’t wanna miss it. You’ll be blessed. Thanks so much. I believe that God the Father, gave different motivational gifts. And I believe it’s just how you’re made up, your personality, different things about you. I believe God has given everybody motivational gifts. I believe the way you succeed in life is find out what your God-given gifts are. Friends, I’m so glad you stayed with us. Barbara is here. We’re talking about how to live in victory. Number one, you’ll wanna make good positive decisions. Make a decision to believe Jesus. Make it a decision to believe the promise of God. Make a decision to speak the promise of God. Make a decision to live the word of God. And you know what, you’ll prosper. But the next one you have is consistency. Talk about that a little bit.

So we have consistency, you know, we brought it out in a previous session. The hand of the diligent makes rich, and there’s something about being consistent, being diligent, and it just means you’re gonna get up and continue to be faithful. And the Bible gives some great examples, again, illustrations of what does that look like.

And I love, especially, again, where you grew up and were raised in an agriculture area. I love this. In 2 Timothy 2:6 it says, “The hardworking farmer must be first partake of the crops.” Verse five, the one before, it says, “And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.”

Yeah. So you gotta be diligent. You know, we live in Colorado Springs. We have world class athletes, Olympians trained here in Colorado Springs. And, you know, I’ve met some of them and they are super diligent people. They’re diligent about their diet. They’re diligent about their exercise. They’re diligent about, you know, their training. And they’re diligent about their sleep. All of these things affect them as an athlete. A farmer has to be diligent. There’s certain times he has to plow. Certain times he has to, you know, weed. Certain times he has to plant. And, you know, God is the one who sends the rain and gives the sunshine. But you know what, you’ve gotta do your part.

You know, I love it. We’ve been married coming up really close on 40 years, and you’ve been, since I’ve been married to you and known you, you’re a very diligent person. You get up early every day. We talked about, I’ve never seen you sleep in. I know this past weekend on your day off on Saturday, you were here mowing, you know, on the church property, because it was a little bit cool and a little bit damp. And you’re like, this is a perfect day to mow. And so you are very, you know, very diligent and you just are consistent about every area in your life.

Yeah and I don’t usually do that. That’s not my job. But, you know, I’d had someone come in and mow the flat parts with the tractor, and our person that works on the building, he’s a great friend and he’s worked for us for a number of years. He would generally do that, but, you know, I just thought he’s been helping me do some other things, and I need to, you know, I can get this done. It’s rain, that it won’t be too dusty. The weeds and the grass will be soft. And it’s the end of the season right now, so I can mow ’em down. And, you know what, I just, I went and got our little tractor and I just mowed and mowed and mowed. Man, I cleaned this place up, and, boy, our person that helps us with it, he was so happy when he came in Sunday and he saw it, he is like, “Pastor, did you do that?” I’m like, “Yeah, I did it.” But, you know, it helps us go forward and do the next thing. I don’t have to do that. I wanna do that. I get to work. I get to get up. I get to be productive. I get to be a blessing to my church. I get to be a blessing to my employees. I get to be a blessing to the Body of Christ. You know, how many people, they so lazy they won’t get off the couch. All they do is watch that television, play with that social media, play on them, you know, write your brain games. And I’m not against doing some of that, but you can’t spend a lot of time doing that if you really wanna succeed and prosper.

You know, you just mentioned something. We’re talking about, you know, decisions. We’re talking about victory decisions, consistency. And I really love being steadfast. I just wanna go ahead and get into this next point. But I love 1 Corinthians 15:58 where it says, “Therefore my beloved brethren be steadfast, immovable, always a abandon in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” Be steadfast, immovable.

  Amen. Amen

Praise God. We need to be steadfast.

And, again, a lot of times people, they’re so emotional, if they just don’t see things immediately, they just give up. And I love this. It says, be steadfast, keep doing it, be immovable. In other words, adhere to the word of God. Adhere to it. Stick to it.

Yeah, just keep believing God, our life’s proof. You know, there’s been a lot of people that started out in Bible studies. You know, I’ve been believing these things that we believe for over 40 years.

  Amen.

Praise God for over 40 years since I’ve been baptized in the Holy Spirit, was called to preach since I went to Andrew Wommack’s Bible study where the word of God just came alive to me.

  Hallelujah.

It’s like you don’t have to be sick, poor and defeated by the devil. You can believe God. And you know, things that I started out, they didn’t immediately come to pass sometimes, but, you know, I just kept believing. I’ve had opportunities to go broke. I’ve had opportunities to die. But, you know, I just pass ’em up. I just keep believing God. And you know what? Good things happen. I just had an opportunity to have a major meltdown. I felt so let down about something that happened. I was sure God was gonna take care of something in this way. And it involved millions of dollars for the ministry and for the church. And, you know, it didn’t happen the way that I thought, but, you know, it took me, I was involved in that. It was a three year battle and then it came out to nothing. And you know what? I just got up the next morning and you gave me a word. You said, “Call this person who’d been in our church for years and years, used to be on our board. Now they travel quite a bit around the states.” And I called them and they said, “It’s not over yet.” And that’s exactly how I felt in my spirit. And so that was on a Friday. The Monday I called in to this company that had kind of done this. And I said, “Hey, here’s some stuff.” And they gave me the name of a person in the company that was dealing with this issue and had dealt with it. And of course I called him and said, “Well, you know what happened.” I said, “Yeah, but here, here and here.” He said, “Well, if I was you, I’d go.” And, man, we went right back. And I’m telling you, it’s not over till it’s over. It’s not over. Like they say an opera till the fat lady sings, we’re gonna have the victory. And I, I’ve been assured by God, I’ve had the word of the Lord. It looked like the word that God gave me wasn’t coming to pass and sometimes that’s how it looks. And the devil will try to have a heyday in your mind. But listen, I didn’t have not have a pity party. I’d been in Denver for four days dealing with this issue. It finally come to a head? I was driving back, I felt so defeated. I happened to talk to my son Aaron and Aaron gave me a word. He said, “Daddy, you can get that job done for this much money.” And by Monday, I had a bid to do the work for that much money. But it’s God’s gonna take care of it. I’m telling you, it’s all good. And it’s a lot of money. But you know what? God’s got plenty of money.

Well, praise the Lord. You know, we’re talking about again, how to have victory and be, it’s about decisions, consistency, about being steadfast, immovable, always abound in the work of Lord. He’s not gonna forget us. He’s with us. We had another very precious friend who said, “Remember, Jesus is still in the boat with you.” And that’s a good word for someone right now. I’m gonna go on to 2 Timothy 2:15. And it says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of God.” So be diligent.

  Yeah.

Again, be diligent in your walk with the Lord.

Be diligent. Yeah, I’m studied to show yourself approved unto God. Be diligent in the word. Be diligent in your relationship with God. Be diligent in your faith.

  Amen.

We’re gonna talk about that, you know, in tomorrow’s broadcast. And then you have this Hebrews 3:14. Why don’t you go there and read Hebrews 3 and verse 14?

I love this. Again, this is in Hebrews. It says, “For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end.” There’s that word again, steadfast.

Yeah. Hold the beginning of your confidence. So many people start out in faith, but they give up somewhere along the line. I talked a little bit ago about, you know, over four, it was 45 years ago that I first heard Andrew Wommack preach. when I was, I was already saved. I’d been saved for six years, but I wasn’t baptized in the Holy Spirit. But when I heard Andrew preach, something went off in me. I started believing the promises of God were for me. And you know what? I’ve had a lot of opportunity to fail, but, you know, there were a lot of people, a lot of my family members in those same meetings and some of ’em aren’t even serving the Lord Jesus today, which is a tragedy, you know? But God gives you choice, and your choices have a lot to do with the victory that you receive in life.

  Amen.

So, praise God. We’ve got a choice to believe God, not to believe God, to believe the promise, not to believe the promise. We wanna be consistent. We’ll talk more about that. And we’re gonna talk about, you know, we’ve been talking about being steadfast. We’ll talk more about that.

  Amen.

Tomorrow in the broadcast. God is so good. I hope you’ve enjoyed these teachings. You know what, if you have enjoyed these teachings, tell your friends about ’em. They can go and you can watch these on our website. They’re absolutely free of charge. They’re, you know, available to you. It’s not a problem for you to get them. And so I encourage you to get ’em. This will help you in life. You know, God has no respecter of persons and God has been good to me and God’s been good to you. He’s been good to our family. But you know what? He’ll do that for anyone, anyone that will believe Him.

I believe this is something my mother really imparted to me. Read the Bible and just believe what it says. Believe what it says and act on it.

  Yeah.

  Hallelujah.

  Praise God.

I was reminded of that. You know, we had a youth group going around where our last location was and raking people’s yards and blessing them just doing it for free. And this happened years ago. And one of those ladies said, “Oh, I watched Pastor Lawson on TV.” I’m on the TV early here in Colorado Springs. I’m on actually a couple times a day. And she said, “You know, a lot of things he said,” she said, “in fact, I think all of it,” she said, “if you look in the Bible, it’s really in there.” And, you know, a lot of people, they believe what they believe, but they don’t really look at what the Bible says. And it’s so important for us today to have our faith founded in the scripture. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God and when you have the gospel truth on it. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my word shall endure forever.” And when you keep believing, I’ve been believing some of these things 45 years.

The best foundation that you can build your life on is the word of God.

And you know what? My life keeps getting better and better. Amen. And God’s no respecter persons, if he’ll do it for me, he’ll do it for you. Your success might look different than my success, because we’re different individuals. We got different callings, different giftings, different anointings, different talents. God’s got a different plan. We’re individuals, we’re unique, but God wants you to succeed.

  Amen.
