Destined to Win Part 10 Transcript

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ. Friends, I’m so glad that you have tuned in that you are connected with us today. There is one thing that is nearly important as you being born again, and you know what? Being born again is very important. Jesus said, If you’re gonna see, if you’re gonna experience the kingdom of God, you must be born again. And the thing that is nearly that important is that you renew your mind in the word of God. And we’re gonna be talking about this, in this broadcast, blessings. Friends, I’m so glad that you’re here today. I’m here with my son Aaron. We’re teaching from Ephesians chapter four, and we’re talking about walking out our new life in Christ. And the first thing he said is in Ephesians 4:1 is that we walk worthy of our vocation. And we talked about how we do that through humility, how we do that through unity, how we do that through our God given gifts. Then he moves into don’t walk like the rest of the world walks. And there are two things that are necessary for us to not walk like the world. Number one, we must be born again. Jesus said, if we’re not born again, we won’t see or experience the kingdom of God. But not only we need to be born again, we need to renew our mind in the word of God. And in some cases, I think mind renewal is just about as essential for healthy Christian living as being born again. So we’re gonna talk about this in Ephesians chapter four, beginning in verse 17. The first three chapters of Ephesians, Paul talked about who we are and what we have in Christ, and we love to hear that, but he talks about in the last three chapters how we walk it out. And we need both of them, praise God. And so he says, don’t walk in verse 17, as other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind. And we talked about this briefly yesterday, saying this is a biblical definition of spiritual death. They have their understanding darkened, they’re separated or alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them. So a lot of people think when man sin that God left, but we could go to Genesis chapter three. See, when Adam sin that God came after him. God came to find him and speaking with him and immediately set the plan of redemption in action. So what separates us from the life of God? It’s not God that moved, it’s us that moved. We are alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in us because the blindness of their heart. He goes on in verse 18, and this is where we left off, who have in past feeling given themselves over to lasciviousness or sensuality, just if it feels good to it. That is not the way we live. So many people let their feelings dominate them. You talked about how yesterday, how a lot of people today think that just whatever they think is the gospel. You know what, the word of God is the gospel, amen. The word of God is the truth. The way that we’re separated from the world is through the word of God. And we need to live our lives by the word of God. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. He said, in another place, heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will endure forever. And so he says, we aren’t to give ourselves over to sensuality, to living just to please our senses, to work all uncleanness, that’s sexual sin with greediness. Dr. Sumrall said, if you wanna make it in the ministry, you gotta watch out for the gold, the girls, and the glory. And so he’s talking here about two of those things. He’s talking about sexual sins and money. So we have to money, right? Sex and power. We’ve gotta guard against those things. And it’s not wrong to have money. Sex is beautiful in the aspect of marriage between one man and one woman.

Glory.

Glory.

A lot of people try to glorify themselves.

Yes.

I like the song that says glorify thy name. To God alone be the glory. I know people who try to turn things around and make it about them. And man, if you get outta humility, that’s one thing that Paul starts off Ephesians four right away is talking about humility.

Right.

Just the other day in our one of our staff devotionals, I was sharing just how we’re not to be ignorant of the devil’s devices and to resist the devil and he’ll flee from us.

Yes.

And that’s actually coming in context saying that God gives grace to the humble.

Yes.

And I think one way that the devil devours people is with pride.

Yeah.

Probably one of the primary ways that people get devoured by the devil is through pride.

Look at the scripture in Proverbs 6:16-19, these six things does the Lord hate. Yes, seven are abomination to him. He begins with a proud look. Americans don’t be enamored with yourself. He says a lying tongue. They get up in pride and then they start telling lies or believing lies. He says and hands that shed innocent blood. I believe the greatest sin of America really is this legalized abortion. It is a crime. It is a terrible terrible thing. And we are not to shed innocent blood. And that child had no choice in that matter. A heart that devises wicked imaginations. People start thinking, they kind of build on one another. You start lying to yourself, you start doing the wrong thing. You begin to imagine wicked things. Feet that are swift in running to mischief. Some people just run to mischief. And then he says, a false witness that speaks lies. And finally he says this, the man he who sows discord among the brethren. Do you know pride and discord go together? The Bible says that this in the book of Proverbs that only by pride comes contention. And if you’re angry and upset you’re lifted up in pride and you need to guard against that. I love that you brought that out. We need to get back over here into Ephesians chapter four, but we’ve gotta guard against some of these things and sensuality and not just live in our own pleasure, right? And so he says specifically sexual sins, keep money in its proper priority. Let it be your servant, don’t serve it and don’t get lifted up in pride. He goes on, he says, but you have not so learned in Christ. You didn’t learn this from Jesus. He says and that’s Ephesians 4:20, if so be that you have heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus. So we said this yesterday, the truth is in the word of God, Jesus and his word are one and the truth is in Jesus, Jesus is the truth. The word of God is the truth. We aren’t able to set up our own standard for truth. We go by what the scripture says, what the Bible says. Praise God and Jesus is the truth. He says that you put off concerning the former lifestyle, the former behavior, the former way of living, the old man, which is corrupt according to deceitful lusts. We gotta put off the old man. And he says, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. So here’s how you begin to walk out this victory. You don’t walk like the world walks. Number one, you get born again but number two, you renew your mind and notice what he says, be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Now that word spirit of your mind is not talking about your spirit, it’s talking about your attitude. That word spirit can also be translated attitude. When the Bible says cleanse yourself from all filthiness of the spirit, it’s talking about your attitude.

You need to keep your spirit up that’s talking about.

Yeah, like school spirit and attitude.

Your will and attitude, yeah.

You know what, what is a spirit of faith? That’s a major attitude of faith, praise God.

I was kind of thinking about just how Paul lays out Ephesians in the first three chapters, he’s really talking about what Jesus did for you in your spirit, how salvation occurred past tense in your spirit when you believed on Jesus. But now he’s talking about salvation as a present thing in your soul, in your mind, your will and your emotions. So salvation is a past thing for the believer. Your spirit has been changed to the spirit of Christ. It’s also a current, a present thing that’s why you need to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. That’s talking about what your mind, your will, your emotions being transformed by the renewing of your mind, but also salvation is a future thing for your physical body.

When Christ comes again.

Yeah, when Jesus comes again. So salvation for the believer is past, present and future. And Paul is kind of talking about that here in Ephesians. He’s talking about the salvation that has occurred past in your spirit. Now you are already seated with Christ in heavenly places, but now he’s kinda talking about what’s happening in the present that you need to do to work out that salvation now, to walk it out.

Hebrew says this in Hebrews 10 the end of the chapter, We are not of those who draw back unto perdition or judgment, but we are of those who believe to the saving of the soul. That’s what you’re talking about, the saving of the soul. And the Bible says a number of times about three times at least in the New Testament talks about the salvation of the soul. So your spirit is saved when you believe, but your mind needs constant renewal.

Yeah, maybe you’re a believer or know a believer, maybe someone in your family who was saved who really believed on Jesus, but they really aren’t renewing their mind that they’re still gonna go to heaven to be with Jesus, but they’re not gonna be able to fully walk out what God has destined for them without renewing their mind, without spending time in the word of God.

A lot of people are saved and stuck. And that’s kind of how I was before I got in Andrew Wommack’s meetings, thank God I got there.

And you realized with your mind what God had already done for you and that he had purpose for you.

Yes, and this word be renewed in the spirit of your mind, the word for renewed is the Greek word ananeoo. Ana means renewal, renovation to take on a new mind or a complete change for the better. We moved to Colorado Springs in 2001. You were with us help to start Church of the Redeemed in Kit Carson. In 1988, we were there 13 years. And then we moved here to start Charis Christian Center in 2001. And we bought a fixer upper, and boy, it was a 30 year old house on a very good street in the south west side of the city, but it was black on the outside with yellow trim. The sun had eaten through the paint. The trees in the center island had all grown up.

Nothing had been touched in 30 years.

No, the walls were brown and black was smoked.

Red shag carpet, gold shag carpet.

Blue, I mean it with grease. It was filthy.

How many gallons of paint did you use?

We put 28 gallons of paint on the inside and 27 gallons of paint on the outside of oil stain. It was stained oil black in yellow trim. And we put painted oil battleship gray with white trim.

It needed some renovation.

It needed some renovation. You remember it well and thank God we turned it around, glory to God.

Yeah, even in the basement there’s a arrowhead countertop, like a bar an arrowhead and on the wall there’s a big Indian native American plastered on the wall. We live near Cheyenne Mountain.

It had spears and tomahawks.

You try to be politically correct get rid of the Native American mascot in our house.

We took all of that off of the wall and we put a southwestern texture and painted it. We painted the whole house white to start. We just clean the place up just to we had to use a bunch of kills first to get rid of all this black dead smoke so much.

Transformed.

It was transformed. Remember the kitchen cabinets? They were black and sticky.

Yeah, God wants to transform you too. Some of you need some transformation, you need some.

Gold and yellow countertops. Man, we ripped all that out of there after a while and it had a fiber tile roof that eventually failed and we put on a stone coated steel roof and had an old deck remember it was about to fall off. And we eventually cut that thing off and put a 60 foot trek deck on it. Man, we renovated it. We eventually stuck coat it, man, we transformed that house. Glory to God we made it new. Well, God wants to transform your life and it starts in the spirit when you’re born again, but then you’ve gotta renew your mind. So we’re gonna come back and talk a little bit about how we renew our mind. And you need to hear this. It’ll change your life for the good. My life keeps getting better because I have renewed my mind in God’s work, blessings. Friends, I’m Pastor Lawson Perdue, and I’ve been teaching “Destined to Win” from the book of Ephesians. This is one of the greatest teachings that I’ve ever done. I’ve had more requests for this teaching than almost any teaching we’ve done. I’ve gotta in eight parts as I taught it in church, in CD form also, in a USB, and then I also have the teaching in 16 parts as we’ve taught it on television with my son Dr. Aaron Perdue. And in this 16 part teaching, I am just thrilled with all the different things that was brought in. So you can get the eight part CDs or the USB that has all the video and audio, or you can get the 16 part as taught on television. Call us and let us know what you would like to have. We have a special offer today and we’re so blessed to have you. Check out our website charischristiancenter.com. We have this and many other materials. And we have all of these things online for free, blessings. Praise the Lord, we’ve been talking about how to renew your mind and we are in Ephesians four. I wanna read verse 22 to verse 24. He says, put off concerning the former lifestyle, the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Change the way that you see things and put on the new man, which after God in the likeness of God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Your spirit is created in righteousness. And that happened when you were born again. You were made the very righteousness of God in Christ. You recently talked about that in a broadcast from 2 Corinthians 5:21. And true holiness is not what you do to the outward man. True holiness comes from the inside out. It’s radiating Jesus from the inside of you. We really reflect Jesus to this world. And so he tells us, so between putting off the old lifestyle, the old man, the old way of living and putting on the new man, we’ve gotta renew our mind. And the way we renew our mind is we go to the word of God. The Bible says in Romans 12:2, be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is the good, the acceptable, and the perfect will of God. And so we wanna be transformed like a caterpillar into a butterfly. We want people to see that Jesus on the inside of us. You know that Jesus in you is the only Jesus some people will ever see? So you need to get a revelation of Jesus Christ in you, the hope of glory. So he says this word renewed is ananeoo renewal, renovate, take on anew. So we’ve gotta change the way we think and we gotta begin to see God for who he is. We need to begin to see ourselves for who God says we are. And we need to see the world like God sees it. There’s so many people that have never renewed their mind. We had a whole eight years of administration, the United States government where the leader of this nation, I’m not gonna tell you who it was right now, but just taught people that they were victims and everybody owed them something. And so many people bought into that lie. And that is one of the most detrimental mentalities that you can take. The Bible does not teach that you are a victim. When you are born again, you are a victor in Christ. You are more than a conquer through him that loved you. Greater is he that is in you than he that’s in the world whosoever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our face. So we’ve gotta renew our mind in the word and see what God says about you because God’s opinion of you is good, amen. We shouldn’t take anybody’s opinion of ourself except for God’s. And I’ve even had some of my best friends say some terrible things about me in the past, but I didn’t rattle my cage, it didn’t shake my boat because my security is in not what my best friends think about me. My security is in my relationship with God through Christ. Hallelujah.

Amen.

Hallelujah. So many people they just fall apart like a $2 suitcase as Andrew Wommack would say because somebody said something about them, who cares. It’s not their opinion that matters. It’s God’s opinion that matters.

Amen.

Praise God. So he says, when we put on this new man, we walk in a different way. And he says in verse 25, put away lying. Just tell the truth. It’s always better to tell the truth. I told some young Christian, man, I find Christians lying. I said, just tell the truth it always works out better. Speak every man truth with his neighbor for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin. You could be mad at the devil all the time. Let not the son go down upon your wrath. If you’re gonna be mad, be mad at the devil. The Bible says this in Ephesians 6:12, we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the ruler of the darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places. Our wives are not our problem. Our friends are not our problem. Our pastor’s not our problem. Our church is not our problem. Our boss is not our problem. Our school is not our problem. The devil is our problem, amen. So if you wanna be mad at somebody, be mad at the devil. And he says this, neither give place to the devil. Don’t give place. You have to give place to the devil. Satan really has no authority, he has no power over us as believers. We have absolute authority over all the works of the devil. Let him who stole steal no more. Who is the thief here?

The devil’s the thief.

The devil’s the thief so don’t let him steal, but rather let him labor. Now this is talking about people, right? And he says, if you’re worth stealing, quit stealing. Praise God. Quit lying, quit stealing, work labor, working with your hands. The Bible says in Proverbs, in all labor there’s profit. You’ve had a very profitable business, but my mom stayed at your house. She says that boy’s just like you, he works all the time. Jesse Duplantis, he’s very successful in the ministry. Lot of people mad ’cause Jesse’s successful, but Jesse’s been working since he’s been a little boy. Nobody was mad at Jesse when he was a rock musician and was flying in a jet. Nobody was mad at Jesse when he had money in the world, but they mad because a preacher has a little money. but that man’s been working and he’s a very good businessman.

Yeah, labor’s a great thing just to learn how to work hard, learning a good work ethic. Applying yourself to something it’s really important to learn that. A lot of people just try to get rich quick or they hear that God wants them to prosper and they think that it’s just gonna happen automatically. They’re just gonna get rich quick. That’s not how it works. Success takes hard work. The greatest things in life, the most important things in life, the most valuable things in life that you’ll attain will take time and hard work. And that that applies to financial things, that applies to relational things, that applies to skills, to education, to things that you’re gonna learn and develop. It’s gonna take time. It’s not gonna happen overnight. One thing I learned with my background in classical music is that it takes time. You have to put in the hours, you have to put in quality work to get quality results. There’s a saying and a study and I believe it’s true, it takes 10,000 hours to become a master at something.

Yeah.

So I knew when I stepped into ministry, when I started preaching, I knew I wouldn’t be just this great pastor Lawson and a preacher overnight. It would take time, it would take years to develop.

I’ve preached thousands and thousands of hours. For the first 13 years that I pastored and I preached for several years before I pastored for about six or seven years before I pastored, but for the first 13 years that I pastored and I preached at least three times a week when I pastored. I only like four messages out of 13 years of preaching. And somebody hears a young minister and they blow up. They’re not at this level, I don’t like them. Well, you need to get ahold of yourself. People, it takes time to develop the gifts of God and the things of God. Your ability to share the gifts of God. And so he says these things, he says, let him that steal quit stealing, but go to work, work with your hands doing that which is good that you may give to him that needs. Now here is the reason we ought work. We ought to work to give. So many people trying to work to live. What a sorry mentality trying to work to live. We need to work to give. If you make your giving your goal, your living will be no problem at all, amen. And I just think it’s mentality working to live because people just thinking about themselves. That’s a very selfish attitude. And Paul says, no, work to give. If you make your goal given, praise God, you’re living will be fine. Praise God. I’m giving more than I’ve ever given. Mom and I give more a week than we used to make in a month when we first got married. And you know what, we’re living better than we ever did. Hallelujah. And we’re still pretty conservative, but we’re very generous, hallelujah, in the realm of giving. And God brings that back to you. He says, don’t let any filthy communication, corrupt communication come out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying. If it doesn’t build somebody up, if it doesn’t help somebody, maybe you don’t need to share it. That it may minister grace to the hearers. We need to guard our mouth. We need to guard our tongue and we need to speak words of life that minister grace to people. And he says, and grieve not the Holy Spirit of God. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. We need to learn to listen to the Holy Spirit, whereby we are sealed to the day of redemption. When you got born again, your spirit was sealed. It was perfect, it was righteous, it was good until the day Jesus comes. It’s like a down payment. It’s earnest. A guarantee on a deposit that Christ is gonna come and you’re gonna get a glorified body one day. And he goes on and talks about how we don’t grieve the Holy Spirit, let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor. Outbursts of emotion. I’ve been guilty myself and evil speaking. Put away from you with all hatred, malice, determine lasting anger, put it away. These things are not becoming from the body of Christ. So don’t live like the world. Don’t talk like the world. Don’t act like the world. Praise God. And he says this, be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you. Let the love of God rule you. Let Jesus be your goal, praise God.

Amen.

Amen. You’re married, I’m married, you know what? We gotta work at walking in love, praise God.

All of that just put away. Put away anger. Some people just are just angry all the time. Some people get angry about a situation or about another person. They just hang onto that anger. They hang onto that bitterness for months, for years.

Do you know the Bible says he that hates his brother if you know somebody’s born again, you do not have a right to hate them.

Yeah.

He that hates his brother is a murderer.

If they were in the wrong just let it go.

You need to give it up.

Let it go.

Amen. Aaron, you’re preaching good. Hallelujah. This is awesome. And so we renew our mind with the word of God and we begin to see the world the way God sees it. We begin to see God for who he is. We begin to see ourselves for who we are. And it changes our whole perspective on life to where we begin to live with a new goal and a new destiny. Not not just for ourselves, but we’re living to give. Praise God, you know what? If you make given your goal you’re living will be no problem, amen. I wanna tell you, if you’re not a partner with this ministry, you ought consider it. This is good ground. And I’ve got lots and lots of people that have come to this church and that have partnered with this ministry and they have found out when they partnered with this ministry, they begin to increase like never before, that’s a testimony. There is an anointing of increase on this ministry. And you know what, we don’t keep it all for ourselves. We are a giving ministry.

My wife and I, we like to give to where we’re being fed. If there’s a certain ministry that we like to listen to that’s really helping us grow, helping us overcome different situations, if we’re being fed, that’s where we like to give. So if you feel like you’re being fed, just growing from the word of God that’s being preached here, this is a great minister to go ahead and just become a monthly partner with.

Praise God. If you need prayer, give us a call. We have trained prayer ministers ready to receive your call. God bless you, we appreciate you. Thanks for being a part today.
